As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the whimsical world of Animal Crossing, I must say that these three houses are nothing short of masterpieces. Each one tells a unique story about its resident villager, seamlessly integrating their personality, species, and backstory into the design.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth game in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series, and it’s the first to be released on the Nintendo Switch. Ever since its launch, this game has been skyrocketing in popularity. In fact, it’s one of the most purchased and downloaded games available on the Nintendo Switch console.

In the game, players can extend invitations to only ten out of a total of 413 animal villagers to inhabit their island, with each having a distinctly designed dwelling that reflects their unique personality. However, it’s worth noting that some houses are more visually appealing than others. This article offers insights into the top themed villager homes by assessing how well they embody their character, the suitability of items within the house, and the combined attractiveness of both the interior and exterior design.

10 Camofrog

Decked Out In Camouflage

  • Species: Frog
  • Personality: Cranky
  • Birthday: June 5th

As a devoted fan, I’ve seen Camofrog in every single “Animal Crossing” game up until now, but in “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” his home underwent an impressive transformation. Previously, it was filled with junk and metal, but now, it’s been transformed into a camouflaged jungle setting complete with wooden furniture and camping equipment.

This house really suits Camofrog and the jungle setting with updated items is a welcome change. Although the exterior of the house doesn’t match Camofrog’s character as well as the interior, it is still suited to the jungle theme.

9 Petri

The Home Of Scientific Discovery

  • Species: Mouse
  • Personality: Snooty
  • Birthday: October 23rd

Presented on October 15, 2021, as part of the 2.0 update for “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”, Petri is a tiny mouse villager who harbors grand aspirations in the field of science. His living space effectively embodies his personality with its laboratory design and simple white bed.

The house exterior harmoniously aligns with Petri’s blond hair and white lab coat, avoiding an overly showy look, which makes it a fitting neutral element for players’ islands. Moreover, the messy desk filled with papers and hanging dish towels adds to the impression of Petri’s busy personality.

8 Sheldon

A Fall-Inspired Mushroom Forest

  • Species: Squirrel
  • Personality: Jock
  • Birthday: February 26th

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Sheldon first appeared, but his residence in Animal Crossing: New Horizons surpasses his initial dwelling. His home now features a woodland area filled with mushrooms, and the interior design reflects his squirrel species. Notably, a forest pathway wallpaper adds to its charm.

The outside of Sheldon’s home has a woodland ambiance, featuring mid-toned wooden siding and a green roof, mirroring Sheldon’s fur and eye tones. Yet, the house doesn’t seem to reflect any aspects of his personality, which could have been more engaging.

7 Ankha

Ancient Egypt Reimagined

  • Species: Cat
  • Personality: Snooty
  • Birthday: September 22nd

Ankha is a beloved villager who has been a part of the Animal Crossing franchise since its beginning. Her homes consistently showcase her Ancient Egyptian motifs, making them visually striking.

Although her Animal Crossing: New Horizons home interior is somewhat simpler compared to her Animal Crossing: New Leaf house, with fewer and less diverse items. Yet, it remains among the most creatively themed houses throughout the game, perfectly fitting her style, particularly in its exterior, making it worthy of a spot on this list.

6 Avery

A Throwback To The Wild West

  • Species: Eagle
  • Personality: Cranky
  • Birthday: February 22nd

Initially, Avery was introduced in the updated Japanese version of GameCube’s exclusive game, Animal Forest e+. However, his global debut took place in Animal Crossing: City Folk, where he first uttered his signature phrase, a blend of an Eagle’s call and the popular western exclamation “yee-haw”, which he refers to as “skree-haw”.

His house reflects his Wild West aesthetic, with its rocky flooring and mountainous wallpaper in orange hues. The addition of a campfire, torches, and stone furnishings further the historical feel of his house’s interior. The exterior captures Avery’s color scheme in a darker hue but retains the Western feel with its paneled door.

5 Hans

A Yeti Atop His Mountain

  • Species: Gorilla
  • Personality: Smug
  • Birthday: December 5th

In the game Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Hans was initially introduced, much like Camofrog. However, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Hans underwent a significant home makeover. His house interior now showcases a wintery landscape wallpaper, complete with skiers, snow-laden trees, and camping gear, giving it an icy mountain aesthetic that aligns with his Yeti-inspired appearance.

The outside of the house carries a frosty hue, complemented by a light blue door that resembles Hans’ complexion. The unique style of Hans’ home and the way it tells a story about its surroundings make it stand out among the top-ranking themed villager houses. (or)

4 Lucky

He Rests In Peace…?

  • Species: Dog
  • Personality: Lazy
  • Birthday: November 4th

In “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” Lucky is one of the beloved villagers who has consistently appeared in the series. His unique, oxymoronic name and bandaged look perfectly complement his house’s design.

The house, sporting a black-and-white exterior that mirrors Lucky’s bandages and ears, seems to reflect the somewhat somber history of this character. Inside, you’ll find gravestones, flowers, and a skeleton hidden in the corner, adding to the eerie atmosphere. Lucky’s house has a playful twist to it, aligning with his consistent theme throughout the Animal Crossing series.

3 Cephalobot

Machinery Fit For A Robot

  • Species: Octopus
  • Personality: Smug
  • Birthday: April 1st

Just like Petri, Cephalobot was acquainted with the Animal Crossing series through the 2.0 update of Animal Crossing: New Horizons on October 15, 2021. At first sight, his house appears quite ordinary, but its interior leaves a lasting impression.

Inside Cephalobot’s abode, you’ll find an array of advanced machinery, gizmos, and even a rest pod – all fitting perfectly with his robotic exterior. The gray skull-shaped music player and surgical tools not only deepen the mystery surrounding Cephalabot but also preserve a harmonious color palette that aligns with his visual appeal.

2 Phoebe

Rising From The Ashes

  • Species: Ostrich
  • Personality: Big Sister
  • Birthday: April 22nd

Phoebe first joined the franchise with “Animal Crossing: New Leaf,” but her living situation and character have evolved since then in “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.” Labeled as an Ostrich villager, it seems there’s been a change – her updated house design now suggests she’s actually a phoenix instead.

Within her residence, you’ll find volcano-themed wallpaper and flooring, symbolizing a volcano where a phoenix is expected to emerge from the embers. The exterior of the house harmonizes with Phoebe’s color scheme while remaining modest, thus allowing the interior design to be captivating upon entry. The overall appearance and imaginative storytelling of the house are flawlessly designed, consistently reflecting Phoebe’s aesthetic.

1 Victoria

The Winning Horse

  • Species: Horse
  • Personality: Peppy
  • Birthday: July 11th

In the exclusive Japanese version of Animal Forest e+, Victoria makes her debut alongside Avery. Her home’s color scheme harmoniously reflects her own, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a horse barn’s exterior.

In “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” Victoria’s residence beautifully blends the characteristics of her personality, species, and appearance with the interior design. This results in a harmonious representation that is visually appealing and consistent, making Victoria’s house a superb example of thematic coherence and aesthetic harmony.
