A movie based on the anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War is coming soon, and it’s planned to be the final chapter in the story of this popular romantic comedy. The announcement happened at the end of a special two-part episode, titled “The Stairway to Adulthood”, which aired on New Year’s Eve.

On December 31, 2025, Crunchyroll streamed the finale of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, titled Kaguya-sama: Love is War – Stairway to Adulthood, at the same time as it aired in Japan. Following the two-part special, it was announced that a new Kaguya-sama: Love is War movie is in development. The creator, Aka Akasaka, has written a completely original story for the film, which he describes as both fresh and reminiscent of the series. This movie is being billed as the anime’s final chapter, but the title and release date haven’t been announced yet.

The popular anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War is back after a three-year break with a new story. Many of the same talented people who worked on the show before returned, including director Shinichi Omata (also known as Mamoru Hatakeyama). Masayuki Suzuki, who has performed all the previous opening themes for Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, returned to sing the new opening song, “Abunai Kioku” (“Dangerous Memory”). This time, he collaborated with Aoi Koga, the voice actor for Kaguya Shinomiya, marking their first musical partnership. Fans can watch the latest installment featuring Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane on Crunchyroll. It’s available in Japanese with subtitles in multiple languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, and Italian. I first came across the Kaguya-sama: Love is War manga back in 2015, and it quickly became incredibly popular – there are now tens of millions of copies out there! Viz Media publishes an English version, and the story is a really fun rom-com about the student council president and vice president. They’re both secretly in love, but they’re way too proud to say it, so they end up trying to trick each other into confessing first. The manga finished its run in October 2022, and the author, Akasaka, decided to focus more on writing new stories and less on the artwork. He’s since moved on to work on other manga like Oshi no Ko and Marchen Crown.

The anime series Kaguya-sama: Love is War began in 2019, with new seasons released in 2020 and 2022. After a three-year break, a special episode titled Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – The Stairway to Adulthood aired in late 2025. In 2022, a movie, Kaguya-sama: Love is War – The First Kiss That Never Ends, continued the story from Season 3.

Although there won’t be a fourth season of Kaguya-sama, a new movie is being made to give the series a proper ending.
