The Biggest Upcoming Isekai Anime

No matter what catastrophe might happen – even if the Sun exploded – new “isekai” anime would still appear. This genre, where ordinary people are transported to fantastical worlds, has become incredibly common. It all started with older shows like Aura Battler Dunbine, but Sword Art Online really brought the idea into the mainstream over ten years ago. Now, it’s a constant cycle: we go about our daily lives, and then watch another anime about a teenager suddenly gaining incredible powers in a new world. It’s a familiar formula that keeps repeating.

Let me be clear: I genuinely enjoy isekai anime in all its forms! I love everything from incredible shows like Re:Zero and hilarious comedies like KonoSuba, to even the most over-the-top, silly series like Isekai Cheat Magician. They all offer something fun and can brighten anyone’s day, including mine. Luckily, there’s always more isekai anime on the way, though it’s hard to know which ones will become really popular. If you’re looking for some new otherworldly adventures to watch, I suggest checking out these 5 newer series, which are all expected to be released in 2026.

Here are a few notes and criteria:

  • The goal is to primarily spotlight new isekai anime and not sequels that cannot get any bigger. Mushoku Tensei, Re:Zero, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, and Ascendance of a Bookworm will release episodes in 2026, but they are already firmly established.
  • That said, we will highlight one returning anime that seems poised to propel itself to the next level.
  • Only anime that are announced for 2026, and ideally specific seasons.
  • We are mainly focusing on the Winter 2026 season, but two other shows releasing later in 2026 will be highlighted. Three of the upcoming shows will be available in January 2026, so you will not have to wait too long to see them.

Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing

An Upcoming Isekai Anime That Rolls All The Protagonist Archetypes Into One: OP MC, Summoner MC, And Gamer MC

  • Japanese Title: Hell Mode: Yarikomizuki no Gamer wa Hai Settei no Isekai de Musou suru
  • Release Date: January 2026
  • Subgenres: Action, Fantasy, Adventure
  • Studio: Yokohama Animation Laboratory
  • Source Material: Light Novel/Manga by Hamuo
  • Streaming Service: HIDIVE

This anime is shaping up to be either incredibly good or hilariously bad – either way, it’s going to be entertaining. The subtitle, Hell Mode, pretty much tells you what the story is about, but let’s cover the basics anyway. Kenichi is devastated when his favorite RPG closes down, so he tries a mysterious new game that claims to be endless. He ends up reborn in a magical world with all the RPG elements he’s ever dreamed of. Now calling himself Allen, he starts his new life, and things get really interesting when he discovers he’s a summoner. This rare class lets him call upon and control various animals and creatures. Basically, he’s instantly super powerful!

Among all the new isekai anime debuting in Winter 2026, Hell Mode is generating the most buzz. It’s based on a light novel that already gained a following through a manga adaptation that’s been running since 2020. The story blends familiar isekai themes in a way that’s both unique and broadly appealing. If executed well, it has the potential to be one of the season’s most enjoyable, easy-to-watch series – something the isekai genre is known for. Plus, there aren’t many isekai anime where the main character is summoned, which makes this show stand out. While Yokohama Animation Laboratory hasn’t always delivered, they did a great job with Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentōshō.

Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling

The Protagonist Is An Adorable Dragon…What Else Must You Know?

  • Japanese Title: Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datt
  • Release Date: January 2026
  • Subgenres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
  • Studio: Felix Film, Ga-Crew
  • Source Material: Light Novel/Manga by Nekoko
  • Streaming Service: HIDIVE

You’d think every possible reincarnation scenario had already been done in light novels and manga, but stories like Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling prove there’s still plenty of creativity out there. While being reborn as a dragon isn’t the most unusual isekai premise, it’s definitely better than being reborn as something completely ridiculous, like a vending machine – at least he’s born as a thinking creature!

You might be surprised by how good Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon actually is! If you’re looking for a lighthearted anime with some exciting moments, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Though it might seem new, Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling actually started as a light novel back in 2015, meaning it has a solid foundation. The manga has been around almost as long, giving the anime plenty of material to work with. Having this much source content doesn’t guarantee a good adaptation, but it often allows for a more confident and well-paced story. We’ve seen too many anime rush through the beginning to get to the exciting parts, leaving viewers unfamiliar with the original story confused. The studio behind this anime, Felix Film and Ga-Crew, previously worked together on The Most Notorious “Talker” Runs the World’s Greatest Clan, which was surprisingly fun despite being a bit rough around the edges. Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling promises to be a much more cheerful and adventurous story – a combination that usually appeals to a wide audience.

I just wanted to mention that Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling and its ‘Hell Mode’ are only available on HIDIVE, which might mean fewer people get to see them. But honestly, I think it’s great HIDIVE is getting these kinds of shows – it’s a really good way for the service to grow and attract more viewers, and I’m excited to see where they go with it!

There Was A Cute Girl In The Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing To Her

A Demon Falls In Love With A Priestess…Also, Isekai

  • Japanese Title: Yuusha Party ni Kawaii Ko ga Ita node, Kokuhaku shitemita.
  • Release Date: January 2026
  • Subgenres: Comedy, Adventure, Fantasy, Romance
  • Studio: Gekkou
  • Source Material: Light Novel/Manga by Suisei
  • Streaming Service: Crunchyroll

Isekai stories and romance often appear together, but truly great couples are surprisingly rare. Many shows focus on characters being devoted to or surrounded by multiple love interests – a ‘harem’ – which aims to please everyone instead of developing one strong, satisfying romance. While there’s nothing wrong with harem anime, it’s nice to see a more classic isekai romance now and then. There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her promises to be that show in early 2026, though the relationship between Youki and Cecilia is a bit different than what you might expect from a typical isekai romance.

Youki was once defeated by a car, and now he’s reborn as an incredibly powerful demon. Though he could rule everything, he’s not interested in power. Instead, he starts working for a demon lord, surprisingly helping humans fight against other powerful demons. Eventually, he gets bored with this routine and, more importantly, falls in love with Cecilia, a priestess from a hero party he previously defeated. He boldly confesses his feelings, partly as a way to break free from the demon lord and start a new life as a human adventurer (in disguise). Soon after, Cecilia hires him, giving them a chance to get to know each other better. All of this happens very quickly, within the first two chapters of the manga – it’s just the beginning of a story that’s mostly lighthearted and charming.

There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her promises to be a lighthearted and amusing anime, filled with romantic comedy. The main character, Youki, is charming and powerful, though he sometimes acts a bit eccentric. Cecilia is a well-developed character who’s more than just a supportive friend. While the story’s ‘transported to another world’ aspect isn’t crucial, it does add to Youki’s flair for the dramatic.

Magic Knight Rayearth

An Isekai Anime Minor Classic Gets A New Lease On Life

  • Japanese Title: Majikku Naito Reiāsu
  • Release Date: 2026
  • Subgenres: Action, Adventure, Mecha
  • Studio: TBA
  • Source Material: Manga by Clamp

Lately, there’s been a surge in anime remakes, and many of them are revisiting popular shows from the 1990s. Trigun and Ranma 1/2 are prime examples, and it doesn’t look like this trend will stop soon. While those two shows are considered classics, a remake of Magic Knight Rayearth is a particularly interesting idea. The original series was good, but it has more potential for improvement than some other titles.

Long before stories about being transported to another world became popular, Magic Knight Rayearth uniquely combined magical girl themes with fantasy, mecha elements, and the isekai genre to create a compelling story focused on its characters. It starts out lighthearted but grows more complex as the series progresses. The original anime is available on several streaming platforms and is worth checking out if you haven’t seen it. However, the animation and pacing aren’t always consistent, and a remake could address these issues.

Perhaps most significantly, Magic Knight Rayearth has the opportunity to connect with a new audience at a time when anime is much more popular and appreciated than it was when the series first came out.

Reincarnated as a Sword (Season 2)

The 2026 Isekai Anime Sequel That Should Be Huge

  • Japanese Title: Tensei shitara Ken deshita
  • Release Date: Fall 2026
  • Subgenres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
  • Studio: C2C
  • Source Material: Light Novel/Manga by Yuu Tanaka

Most sequels aren’t worth the hype, but Reincarnated as a Sword is a clear exception. The anime, which first aired in 2022, steadily improved with each episode. The title makes it sound more like a silly gag than it is, because the heart of the story is the touching relationship between Teacher – who is a sword – and Fran. While Teacher is incredibly powerful, being a sword means he needs someone to wield him. That’s where Fran comes in. She’s a young beast girl who’s lost hope, but slowly starts to heal and find joy again through her connection with the surprisingly chatty weapon.

It’s been four years since the first season of Reincarnated as a Sword, which is a long time in the world of new releases. Hopefully, the show has maintained a dedicated fanbase that will help the upcoming season 2 become even more popular. If you haven’t seen the first season yet, it’s definitely worth checking out – you won’t be disappointed!
