The Brave And The Bold, The DCU”s First Batman Movie, Postponed For Who Knows How Long

As a dedicated DC Universe fan with over two decades of fandom under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment at the continuous delays in our beloved superhero films. The latest news about Andy Muschietti’s ‘The Brave and the Bold’ being pushed back once again has left me, quite frankly, feeling like I’m stuck in a never-ending loop of anticipation.

Due to Warner Bros.’ decision to move “The Batman Part II” to October 2027, director Andy Muschietti, who is working on “The Flash,” has announced that his Batman DCU film titled “The Brave and the Bold” has also been postponed.

While guesting on the California Secreta podcast, Muschetti said:

Currently, I’m penning a science-fiction movie concept that might materialize in the future. However, due to some delays, the Batman project may not be the next one on the agenda. Therefore, another film might be produced first.

What Caused The Delay For The Brave And The Bold?

“To start with, ‘The Brave and the Bold’ didn’t have an initial release date. So it’s important to note that it wasn’t moved from 2025 to 2035. The delay could be due to a variety of factors. Perhaps Gunn and Warner Bros. are waiting to gauge reactions to ‘Superman’ before making a decision? Maybe the script is still being worked on? Or maybe they’ve encountered challenges with casting?

It’s been speculated that Gunn and Warner Bros. might be considering a plan to integrate Reeves’s Batman world into the larger DC Universe, given the popularity of “Penguin” on HBO. Alternatively, it could be that WB doesn’t want to release two Batman films concurrently, which may be why the production of “Brave and the Bold” is being held back until after “Part II” has been released.

Gunn is very active on Threads, so maybe he’ll explain soon and put the speculation to rest.

Why Isn’t The Batman Part Of The DCU?

Matt Reeves had the final say on this matter, as he was the one who made the decision. To clarify, in December of 2023, Gunn stated on Threads that it was Reeves’ call.

It’s not an “allowed” thing, it’s Matt’s choice, and we respect that.

Until Gunn announces casting for his Bruce Wayne, there’s always a chance the Reeves-verse joins the DCU. But, as of December 2024, that’s not the announced plan.
