The Case for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Make the Leap to Nintendo Switch 2

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, and it’s jam-packed with exciting content for those who jump in early. Alongside enhanced editions of original Switch games and a brand new installment of Mario Kart, the Nintendo Switch 2 library will offer several third-party games to play from day one. However, Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed series won’t be making an appearance at launch.

Although Ubisoft’s “Star Wars Outlaws” is slated for release on Nintendo Switch 2 in September, no “Assassin’s Creed” games have been officially announced for Nintendo’s upcoming hybrid console as of yet. However, it’s high time this situation changes, and what better game to kick things off with than the latest installment in the popular series, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”.

Why Assassin’s Creed Shadows Should Come to Nintendo Switch 2

It’s Been a While Since Nintendo Fans Got to Play an Assassin’s Creed

The initial Nintendo Switch houses several versions of the “Assassin’s Creed” series, each moved from earlier gaming systems. The compilation titled “Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection” gathers together AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations in one package, whereas the remastered version of “Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered” introduces Connor Kenway’s American journey to a fresh group of gamers.

On the Nintendo Switch, the latest “AC” collection you can find is called “Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection.” This compilation brings together “AC: Black Flag” and “AC Rogue,” providing a single package for an ocean-themed experience. If we consider the games’ original release dates, it implies that “Assassin’s Creed Rogue” is the final installment of the franchise that Nintendo users can enjoy.

Although “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” can be played on the Nintendo Switch through cloud streaming, it’s currently exclusive to Japan. As a result, gamers outside of Japan have been missing out on new Assassin’s Creed experiences since a 2019 compilation of games that were first released in 2013 and 2014. It’s high time Nintendo fans get to explore the last decade’s worth of “Assassin’s Creed” adventures.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Would Be an Ideal Nintendo Switch 2 Game

While not universally acclaimed among the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows garnered positive reviews from both critics and fans for its captivating combat and immersive world design. The game’s open-world setting and narrative structure would harmonize perfectly with Nintendo Switch 2’s handheld mode, offering a delightful experience that encourages players to savor each moment, especially when taking short gaming breaks on the go.

The Switch 2 Seems Capable of Running Assassin’s Creed Shadows

However, one possible hurdle for Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be its path. The performance capabilities of the Switch 2 remain to be seen as it takes on some of the technically challenging games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization 7, Hogwarts Legacy, and Street Fighter 6, all of which are slated for release during its launch period.

The verdict is yet undecided if the Switch 2 has the capability to run Assassin’s Creed Shadows smoothly, but assuming it does, Ubisoft could potentially release a version that’s not heavily compromised. It doesn’t have to match the graphical prowess of its PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X counterparts, but it should avoid being another Mortal Kombat 1-like experience on the Switch.
