This spin-off dives deep into the Dead by Daylight universe, weaving a compelling narrative that ties neatly into the existing lore.
Dead by Daylight, a captivating multiplayer game, has been in existence for more than eight years. Since its debut, numerous updates, fresh settings, killers, survivors, and text-based lore have been added to deepen the existing storyline. As you engage in gameplay, your role is either survival or predation, but the narrative hasn’t been fully developed until now. The Casting of Frank Stone takes place within the same universe, and fans of Dead by Daylight are eager to discover how deeply it explores the source material.
In Dead by Daylight, Supermassive Games skillfully weaves the unique narrative of “The Casting of Frank Stone” into the existing lore, creating a captivating and concentrated story about the Entity and its fascination with serial killers. This tale is packed with nods to various playable characters and the broader game world. It delves deep into the universe in thrilling ways, and wraps everything up neatly in an exhilarating climax that leaves fans grinning from ear to ear. While I won’t reveal any spoilers, you’ll find plenty of Dead by Daylight elements in “The Casting of Frank Stone”.
The initial tale is largely pleasing, with many captivating aspects. It features surprising plot twists, nail-biting scenes, and unexpected story developments. The characters are well-developed and unique, each adding depth to the narrative. The story unfolds across various time periods, providing a comprehensive look at Frank Stone’s legacy – his darker sides included. Following Sam’s shooting of Frank in 1963, you journey to 1980, where you observe a group of students creating an amateur movie titled ‘Murder Mill.’ This film is shot on the exact location where Frank Stone was killed by Sam, but also where he dismembered and murdered his victims.
Augustine (a mysterious woman named Augustine, known as Augustine, a woman, the main characters, there will be a mysterious woman named Augustine who wants to buy parts of the movie that were filmed on a lost copyofM of Murder Mill, and Frank Stone’s casting role is a man from two different erasiodids, including a girl who becomes increasingly obsessed aboutsticaboutfilm in the mill, and her boyfriend Jaime,one of the actors. In your continuous journey, you’re constantly making choices that influence various outcomes. As you advance, the stakes grow higher and danger looms closer. When multiple timelines intertwine and the threat intensifies, the tension escalates. Unexpected quick-time events, reminiscent of Dead by Daylight, crop up, requiring constant vigilance. The most apparent homage to DbD is found in repairing generators after gathering required parts, where timing is crucial – you must click at the right moment.
In terms of gameplay, The Casting of Frank Stone bears a resemblance to other Supermassive productions such as The Quarry and Until Dawn. You’ll encounter chances to scale or leap, manipulate objects, and discover an array of collectibles and artifacts, including miniature figurines of Dead by Daylight’s iconic killers. However, some aspects of the movement feel a bit rough, and there were areas where I found it challenging to navigate due to unseen walls. I find myself curious about the tales Behaviour Interactive might weave, especially when they entrust their creations to skilled developers like Supermassive Games. Although the storytelling could be more straightforward at times, it’s evident that they have a clear vision for the lore of Dead by Daylight, and the ending was truly remarkable.
In spite of some challenges encountered while playing The Casting of Frank Stone, I found it immensely enjoyable overall. It seamlessly integrates with Behaviour Interactive’s multiplayer game, injecting fresh energy into the franchise and offering an exhilarating experience at the same time. The cosmic horror, gore, suspense, and terror are all executed skillfully, just as we’ve come to expect from Supermassive. I’m eager to hear what fans of Dead by Daylight’s lore have to say about it. Although the visual quality could be improved and certain gameplay elements felt a bit unresponsive at times, I had a great time unraveling the mystery of who Frank Stone truly is.
