As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that we’re getting an exciting new twist in our beloved game, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2! Ubisoft has just announced the introduction of a Survivors mode, which seems to be an expanded version of the Survival mode from the original The Division. Can’t wait to dive back into the post-pandemic Washington D.C. and see what new challenges await us!
In November 2016, approximately eight months after its initial launch, the game Tom Clancy’s The Division introduced a new mode called Survival. This mode presented players with the task of enduring harsh winter storms, managing their health and resources, scavenging for antivirals, and eventually escaping by helicopter. Survival mode combined player-versus-environment (PvE) elements with a high level of tension and urgency, providing an unique gaming experience distinct from the main game. Alongside the Dark Zone, which had a similar concept but less difficult conditions, The Division is often acknowledged as a forerunner in the extraction genre. However, Ubisoft hasn’t pursued this further until now, but that’s about to change.
The Division 2 Adding Survival Mode in 2026
At this year’s ongoing Gamescom in 2025, Ubisoft unveiled a host of updates about the The Division series, such as a Survivors mode for The Division 2. This Survivors mode is essentially an upgraded version of what was seen in The Division 1, and it’s currently slated for release in the year 2026. The development of this new feature is being spearheaded by Magnus Jansén, a longtime series veteran who has previously worked on games like Far Cry 3, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the original Division.
The Division Franchise Content Roadmap

As for the details about the freshly unveiled mode of The Division 2, Ubisoft is keeping things under wraps for now. However, they have shared four pieces of artwork depicting Survivors, which also showcase a new logo that will be part of the upcoming launch. The images seem to hint at the return of enduring cold environments and helicopter pickups.
By August 2025, the game titled Survivors is still in its initial stages of production, thus a more precise release date beyond “2026” hasn’t been determined yet. Ubisoft intends to collaborate with the community throughout the project’s development, as executive producer Julian Gerighty assures consistent updates and frequent chances for players of The Division 2 to share their feedback directly with developer Massive Entertainment. This input might impact the formation of the new extraction mode. Further information about Survivors is expected to be unveiled in the upcoming months.
Why Will The Division 2 Players Have to Wait 7 Years for an Extraction Mode?
By Q4 of 2025 approaching and considering the potential launch period for the extraction mode, it appears more probable that Survivors will emerge in the latter half of 2026 instead of the beginning. This timing would place its unveiling after The Division 2 celebrates its seventh anniversary in March of next year. Given a seven-year gap to incorporate the popular mode from the original game, one potential reason for the delay might be connected to The Division Heartland. First announced in 2021 as a free-to-play survival shooter, The Division Heartland was canceled early in 2024. This cancellation may have provided an opportunity for The Division 2 to introduce its own extraction mode without competing against another comparable Ubisoft title.
