While Dragon Ball DAIMA was a fun anime that reminded fans of the original Dragon Ball, it also created some issues, especially considering it was the last series Akira Toriyama worked on. The show changed established story points – like how Kibito Kai split apart after Dragon Ball Z – and introduced Super Saiyan 4 Goku, despite Goku previously telling Beerus that Super Saiyan 3 was his limit. These choices have made the series’ timeline more confusing than ever. The introduction of Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta also created a plot hole, as Vegeta’s strongest form was established as Super Saiyan 2 in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
A key moment in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods—where Beerus slaps Bulma—is now confusing because of a recent development in Dragon Ball DAIMA: the introduction of Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta. This isn’t just a minor issue, as both DAIMA and Dragon Ball Super were created by Akira Toriyama. The only way to resolve this plot inconsistency is if the upcoming Dragon Ball Super remake revisits and rewrites Battle of Gods, incorporating the changes Toriyama made in Dragon Ball DAIMA.
Dragon Ball DAIMA’s Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta Retcon Created a Massive Plot Hole
I was pretty surprised to see Vegeta finally transform into a Super Saiyan 3 in Episode 12 of Dragon Ball DAIMA. Apparently, Bulma says he’d been training in secret right here on Earth to achieve it. Honestly, that seems a little hard to believe – I remember when Goku went Super Saiyan 3, everyone across the universe could feel his power! But anyway, that’s what they’re saying happened.
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, this new DAIMA series has me a little puzzled! It’s set before Battle of Gods and the rest of Super, which is cool, but it creates a timeline issue. Vegeta should have definitely mastered Super Saiyan 3 by the time Super started. But when we see him in Battle of Gods, he’s still relying on Super Saiyan 2 as his strongest form – it just doesn’t quite add up!
Vegeta’s Rage Boost in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods No Longer Makes Sense
Around the middle of the Dragon Ball Z movie Battle of Gods, the villain Beerus slaps Bulma. This enrages Vegeta, causing him to transform into a powerful new form – Super Saiyan 2 – and surprisingly become stronger than Goku’s Super Saiyan 3. This isn’t just a theory; Master Roshi specifically points out that Vegeta has exceeded Goku’s power, and Vegeta even manages to draw blood from Beerus, something Goku couldn’t do in their previous battle.
Akira Toriyama frequently uses Master Roshi to highlight true strength, so his acknowledgment of SSJ2 Vegeta’s power is significant. However, this scene feels out of place after the events of Dragon Ball DAIMA. The series shows that Beerus hitting Bulma instantly unlocks all of Vegeta’s potential, causing him to instinctively enter his most powerful form out of anger. Given that Dragon Ball DAIMA establishes that Vegeta doesn’t have the same energy drain issues with Super Saiyan 3 as Goku does, it doesn’t logically follow that he would limit himself to Super Saiyan 2; he would have naturally transformed into Super Saiyan 3.
The Dragon Ball Super Remake Has to Fix Battle of Gods & Dragon Ball’s Canon

The storyline in Dragon Ball DAIMA seems to contradict events in Battle of Gods, creating a plot hole. The best solution would be for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super remake to incorporate the new story elements from DAIMA, making them official parts of the Super storyline. If Beerus hitting Bulma doesn’t trigger Vegeta to transform into a Super Saiyan 3, it would mean either DAIMA isn’t considered part of the main story, or that DAIMA and Super take place in separate, alternate universes.
The upcoming remake of Dragon Ball Super should not only show Vegeta transforming into Super Saiyan 3 against Beerus, but also have Goku use his Super Saiyan 4 form. Since Goku can now achieve Super Saiyan 4 on his own, as established in Dragon Ball DAIMA, it doesn’t make sense for him to limit himself to Super Saiyan 3 during his initial fight with Beerus, or to claim it’s his most powerful state. The timeline of Dragon Ball is currently inconsistent, and a DBS remake offers the best opportunity to resolve these issues.
