The Elden Ring movie may have its lead – and it’s an up-and-coming Netflix star

The Elden Ring film is gradually shaping up. Lately, Alex Garland has been selected to both direct and script the A24 production. Currently, a rising star from Netflix is being considered for the leading role.

According to Deadline, Kit Connor from Heartstopper has discussed the possibility of working with director Damien Chazelle in the upcoming movie based on a video game. They previously worked together in Chazelle’s war film Warfare, where Connor acted alongside Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, and Cosmo Jarvis.

While the casting hasn’t been finalized as of now, according to recent reports by Deadline, it seems that discussions are ongoing and there’s uncertainty about the current state of negotiations or whether a formal proposal has been made.

In the meantime, Connor will feature in a Heartstopper movie on Netflix. As for why it’s a movie instead of another season, co-star Joe Locke explained to The Playlist that due to time constraints, they decided to produce a film because it requires less commitment, yet they can still pour the same affection and dedication into the characters and storyline.

Since Bandai Namco revealed the Elden Ring movie, there’s been a lot of discussion online about casting choices and, arguably even more so, which character or storyline it might center around.

Currently, spectators are eagerly anticipating Vyke taking on the main role in the film, instead of the Tarnished hero from the 2022 open-world game title. Meanwhile, some fans hope that Charles Dance will assume the role of Gideon, the wise leader of Roundtable Hold.

Last year, when discussing the prospect of an Elden Ring film with The Guardian, the game’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed his willingness to relinquish control if a highly capable collaborator could be secured.

Miyazaki stated, “I can’t think of a reason to prevent other interpretations or adaptations of Elden Ring, like a movie perhaps. However, I don’t possess the expertise or capabilities to create something in another medium within FromSoftware. Therefore, we would need a powerful collaborator who shares our vision. Building trust and agreement will be essential for any project.

Now, it seems, that strong partner is in play and actors are marching on towards The Lands Between.
