Summary
- Oblivion fans have spent the last 20 years waiting for a chance to see Cyrodil again.
- They’ve finally got the opportunity with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
- However, one player is actually trying to get out of Cyrodil and has managed to go out-of-bounds.
An exceptionally cunning player of Oblivion Remastered has successfully discovered a method to exit Cyrodil by venturing beyond its boundaries. At present, this clever gamer aims to find a way to get to the Summerset Isles.
Without making 2025 any less hectic, Bethesda surprised Elder Scrolls enthusiasts this week by unveiling a remastered version of Oblivion. Given the sky-high player count on Steam, it’s clear that the remaster has been well-received, drawing both novice players and dedicated fans back to Cyrodiil.
As a dedicated gamer diving back into the world of Oblivion, I’ve got to say, the remastered version has taken my favorite game and given it a shiny new coat of paint, along with some thoughtful quality-of-life tweaks. But let me tell you, that classic Oblivion charm – the jank, if you will – is still very much alive and kicking! It’s like reuniting with an old friend who hasn’t changed a bit. And speaking of old friends, I recently witnessed one player successfully escape the clutches of Cyrodil in quite the epic tale of adventure.
Oblivion Remastered Player Has Already Escaped Cyrodil, And The Out-Of-Bounds Map Is Apparently Quite Detailed
“So That’s Where All Those 120 Gigs Came From!”
On the Oblivion Reddit community, one of the most-discussed threads in recent times was initiated by Redditor GnoblinXD, who miraculously fled Cyrodil. They chronicled their adventure on the forum, beginning with a walk along Skingrad’s Strid River, where they leaped across to Valenwood, reaching Kvatch.
It might seem improbable given the standard map of Oblivion, but GnoblinXD managed to find a way to explore it. Interestingly, the “continent” appeared intact and navigable, although not completely detailed. To their astonishment, they discovered that the Summerset Isles, though not initially visible from the play area, had explorable land.
Looking at The Throat of the World in Skyrim from a distance in Cyrodiil, one can’t help but ponder if it is indeed within reach…
The Summerset Isles served as an attractive destination due to their natural landmark status, yet unfortunately, GnoblinXD has yet to manage reaching them, because the water encompassing the area isn’t filled and instead appears as a void. Looking at their pictures posted on Reddit, it seems they ventured quite far out of bounds, leaving one to ponder just how expansive the explorable map might be.
GnoblinXD concluded their message by expressing their intention to revisit Summerset Isles at a future time, in order to determine if access is feasible or not. It appears that they may be able to navigate beyond Cyrodil and explore freely, which could provide insight into the layout of the game world.
