The Epic Games Store Free Game for February 5 Walked So Blue Prince Could Run

It makes sense that the Epic Games Store is best known for giving away big, popular games like Hogwarts Legacy, Civilization 6, Deathloop, Dead Island 2, and Control. However, alongside those major titles, the store also offers a fantastic selection of smaller, independent games that are equally worth checking out, including Sifu, Fear the Spotlight, Viewfinder, and Ghostrunner.

This week, the Epic Games Store is offering a fantastic indie game called Botany Manor as a free download. Released in 2024, it’s available starting February 5th and shares some similarities with Blue Prince, a highly praised indie title from last year.

Released in 2024 and created by Balloon Studios in Devon, Botany Manor is a puzzle game where you play as Arabella Greene, a former botanist who’s just inherited an old manor house in the English countryside. The game challenges you to grow a collection of magical plants, each with unique needs. You’ll need to explore the manor, find clues, and use what you learn to interact with your surroundings and successfully nurture these plants.

If you enjoyed the popular 2025 puzzle game Blue Prince, you might find Botany Manor feels quite familiar. Both games start with the player inheriting a strange manor house that seems to have magical properties. They also share similar artistic approaches. Both Botany Manor and Blue Prince use a minimalist style, featuring simple designs and clean lines in their environments. They both effectively use light and shadow to add depth to these otherwise simple visuals.

Although both Botany Manor and Blue Prince are puzzle games that rely on observing your surroundings and using a point-and-click interface, they offer very different experiences. Botany Manor guides you through puzzles in a set order, chapter by chapter, while Blue Prince uses a roguelike structure, presenting puzzles in a different, randomized order each time you play.

I was so impressed with how well Botany Manor was received when it came out – critics really seemed to love it, giving it an 83 on OpenCritic and with 91% recommending it. But then Blue Prince arrived, and it blew everyone away even more! It’s currently sitting at a 90 on OpenCritic with a 95% recommendation rate. While Botany Manor doesn’t have the same addictive replayability or tons of extra stuff to do as Blue Prince, if you’re a fan of Blue Prince and enjoyed its puzzles, this free game on the Epic Games Store might just hit the spot!
