Fans of The Expanse will be excited to know that The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. A special Closed Beta is also coming soon for dedicated players. The game is being developed by Owlcat Games, a studio well-known for creating immersive story-driven RPGs with lots of dialogue, making The Expanse: Osiris Reborn a highly anticipated release.
It’s immediately clear that The Expanse: Osiris Reborn draws inspiration from Mass Effect. Both are major third-person shooter RPGs that emphasize using cover during combat. Owlcat Games, known for classic RPGs, is aiming for a bigger, more ambitious style of game development—much like BioWare did with Mass Effect in 2007. Fans are hoping Osiris Reborn will allow Owlcat to expand beyond traditional CRPGs and create a wider variety of games.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn on Game Pass Day One, With a Beta Coming Soon
A major announcement from the recent Xbox Partner Preview was The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. While the game is currently slated for a Spring 2027 release and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, the biggest news is that a closed beta will be available on Xbox Series X/S starting April 22nd. This marks a significant change for Owlcat Games, as they move into developing third-person shooters. Fans who have enjoyed their previous games will be excited to get an early look at the work in progress, as Owlcat has a history of offering closed betas to its supporters, and Osiris Reborn will follow suit.
The closed beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will be open to players who have supported the game at the Founder level. You can become a Founder by purchasing either the Miller’s Pack DLC or the Collector’s Edition directly from the Owlcat website. A key thing to remember is that the beta will be available right up until the game launches, so there’s no need to rush into it. This makes sense because Osiris Reborn doesn’t have any multiplayer features, which usually create limited-time access for beta testers.
During the Xbox Partner Preview, Owlcat unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Osiris Reborn that will likely excite fans of Mass Effect. They also revealed that characters on your ship will influence the game even when they aren’t actively with your team, though details are still limited. Owlcat did explain that Osiris Reborn will feature a new ‘Exploit’ system, allowing players to use the environment to quickly defeat enemies – like blowing up a weak point in a structure to take out a whole group at once – taking their previous RPGs to the next level.
April 22nd is almost here, and players will soon get their first look at Owlcat Games’ new action RPG – a different style of game than they’ve made before. Since this is new territory for the studio, there’s a chance things might not be perfect. Luckily, the closed beta will give Owlcat a chance to refine the game before its release. Hopefully, it will be another great addition to the Xbox Game Pass library, which already has a lot of fantastic games.
