The First 8K Console Game Is Coming to Switch 2

The enhanced version of the puzzle adventure game, The Touryst Deluxe, will be available on the Switch 2 starting September 25th. Existing owners of the original The Touryst on Switch will be able to upgrade to the Deluxe edition at a discounted price.

I recently checked out *The Touryst*, this cool open-world adventure game made by Shin’en Multimedia, a studio based in Germany. It first came out on the Switch in 2019, and then hit Xbox and PC the next year. They even released a PS5 version in 2021, which they hyped up as the first game in the world to run in 8K. Honestly, that 8K thing was a bit misleading. The PS5 couldn’t actually *output* 8K through its HDMI, so the game was rendering at that resolution internally, then scaling it down. Sony initially made a big deal about the PS5 being able to go beyond 4K, but they’ve since stopped talking about 8K support, and you won’t even find it mentioned on newer PS5 boxes anymore.

The Touryst Deluxe Brings 4K60FPS Gameplay With HDR Support and New Content to Switch 2

After being released on many platforms, the game *The Touryst* is returning to Nintendo with a special Deluxe version that will only be available on the upcoming Switch 2. This new edition will utilize the Switch 2’s HDR capabilities and offer enhanced visuals with 4K resolution at a smooth 60 frames per second. Players can also look forward to extra content, such as new items, quests, and a brand new arcade mode.

The Touryst Deluxe Offers $5 Upgrade for Owners of the Original Game

Similar to the first game, *The Touryst Deluxe* will cost $19.99. You can pre-order it now from the eShop – pre-orders started on September 18th. If you already own the original *Touryst* on Switch, you won’t get a free copy of *Deluxe*, but you can upgrade it for just $4.99 (a 75% discount!). It’s unknown if this discount will stack with any future sales. Unlike the 2019 version, which had a small physical release, *The Touryst Deluxe* will only be available to buy digitally on the Switch 2.

Beyond just being available on the new Switch 2, this game is set to add another relaxing option for players. The upgraded version won’t just look better in 4K when played on a TV – it will also feature more realistic lighting, shadows, and visual effects like improved rain and water. The controls are also getting an update, though the developers haven’t shared specifics yet. Good news for existing fans: your save progress from the original game will transfer to this enhanced ‘Deluxe’ edition.
