After reports surfaced that Neople, the studio behind The First Berserker: Khazan, was being reorganized due to the game’s disappointing sales, its parent company, Nexon, clarified that the changes weren’t about layoffs or shutting down the team. Nexon told GamesRadar that the restructuring was a planned shift in how staff are assigned to projects.
According to a company statement, The First Berserker: Khazan is the initial release of three games intended to bring Dungeon & Fighter to players worldwide. They highlighted that the game launched successfully, receiving positive reviews on both PC and consoles, to address concerns about its sales performance.
The company also explained that it was reassigning staff from this project to better utilize resources on other projects, both now and in the future.
With development of The First Berserker: Khazan nearing completion, Neople has restructured its teams. This change will help the company better manage its resources for both current and upcoming games, with a focus on appealing to players worldwide.
This change doesn’t involve layoffs or teams being disbanded. We’re simply moving people to better support our ongoing games and new projects within Neople and across the wider Nexon family.
News agency Yonhap reported that Neople has been shifting staff from its game The First Berserker: Khazan. While the exact number isn’t known, some of the 100 developers who worked on the game have been moved to a team called “R Team” for reassignment. Nexon says they will help these developers use what they learned creating the global game Khazan on future projects.
It’s been well known that The First Berserker: Khazan didn’t meet Nexon’s sales goals. Nexon mentioned in their recent earnings report that the game’s first-quarter revenue was lower than anticipated. However, the company stated that it still considers the launch a success, as it’s a key initial step in their long-term strategy to bring the Dungeon & Fighter franchise to players worldwide.
You can play The First Berserker: Khazan on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. If you’re interested, you can read our full review. Last year, after the game launched, the creative director, Junho Lee, expressed gratitude to players for their support.
I put everything I had into creating Khazan, believing it would define my career. By the time we launched in 2025, I felt completely spent. But then, all of you started playing. Your feedback and support meant the world to us.
