As a seasoned Descendant, I’ve had my fair share of battles against formidable foes, and none have tested my mettle quite like the Devourer. This beastly boss is a true challenge for even the bravest among us, but fear not! With the right strategy, gear, and a pinch of luck, you’ll be able to conquer this interstellar menace.
To obtain the top-tier weapons and characters in the game “The First Descendant“, you’ll need to successfully complete several challenging Void Intercept Battles. In these fights, you’ll encounter massive monsters at Colossus level, which are incredibly powerful and can be quite difficult to defeat, even when fighting in a team.
One such Colossus is the Devourer, in the level 54 Intercept battle. With tons of HP and multiple toxin attacks in its arsenal, it is quite challenging to complete this fight if you don’t know what to do. So, in this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know to defeat the Devourer in The First Descendant.
How to Beat Devourer in The First Descendant
In the course of your gameplay, you’ll face The Devourer as the fifth major battle within the Void Intercept series. This particular adversary presents a significantly higher level of challenge compared to other opponents. Unlike the Dead Bride, you won’t be marked for direct attacks, but you must skillfully evade numerous Damage-over-time (DoT) assaults to stay alive.
Devourer Resistances
In battle against this Colossus, all its attacks inflict Toxin damage. It’s crucial to have at least 1,800 Toxin Resistance if you want to withstand its onslaught. Much like every Toxin creature in ‘The First Descendant’, the Devourer is particularly vulnerable to Electric element damage. Having weapons that deal Electric Attack or characters such as Bunny or Ultimate Bunny will make the fight much more manageable.
Devourer Weak Points
With your understanding of the characteristics of this void intercept boss now in hand, you’re equipped to learn the best strategies for attacking and dealing maximum damage. To ensure optimal damage, focus on hitting the Devourer’s vulnerable spots. These weak points are as follows:
- Sensor (Destructible) – Located on its Head
- Core Cover (Destructible) – Located on its Chest
- Balancer (Destructible) – Located on its Knee
- Core (Removable) – Located on its Chest
- Shoulder (Removable) – Located on its Shoulder
Focusing on these vulnerable spots will allow you to leverage the boss’s weakness, causing significant damage, which could significantly reduce the length of the fight.
Devourer Attacks, Expanded
In the fight against the towering Devourer behemoth, the battle becomes especially tough due to its intricate array of maneuvers. Let’s break down its deadliest strikes and strategies for survival:
- Toxin Blaster: The Devourer shoots toxin blasts from its hand blaster, creating toxic areas wherever they land. While these blasts can’t break structures, they still pose a significant threat. However, the damage from these attacks is relatively low, and you can avoid them by either Double Jumping or Rolling. If you find yourself in a tough spot, hiding behind structures can also keep you safe.
- Toxin Missiles: The Devourer launches multiple toxic missiles from rocket launchers. These missiles are more dangerous than the Blaster attack, as they can break structures and leave behind toxic areas with a larger radius and longer duration. The damage from this attack is higher from the blaster as well, and the best way to avoid it is by double jumping or rolling.
- Toxin Slam: During this attack, the Devourer spawns several toxic bombs and shoots them across the battlefield, creating a long-range Area of Effect (AoE) attack. While these bombs cannot break structures, they deal high damage. To avoid getting hit, you should either hide behind structures or stay on higher ground, as being near the boss almost guarantees a hit.
- Toxin Nukes: This is the Devourer’s ultimate attack during its Enraged State. The Devourer launches multiple toxic missiles into the sky, which then rain down on your location. This attack deals very high damage and leaves a toxic area behind. To survive, you need to move out of the green zone quickly, using either grappling or rolling to evade the missiles.
Devourer Rage Mode
Unlike other Intercept Bosses, the Devourer’s Rage meter increases naturally, irrespective of the weapon you choose. However, speed up this build-up by opting for weapons with Toxin Attack, which is quite unusual as it causes minimal damage to the Devourer during combat.
With your Ecive Scanner, keep an eye on both the rage meter and the vulnerable spots of the boss. When the Devourer reaches its Enraged State, it becomes invulnerable to attacks. Later on, you’ll notice Symbiont barrels appearing all over the battlefield. It’s crucial to focus on eliminating them, or else the Rage Mode will last longer.
Devourer Loot in The First Descendant
If you successfully conquer the Intercept Battle, the Devourer will yield several Epically-ranked weapons (from level 55 to 59) and Legendary-tier modules as loot. Additionally, similar to other intercept battles, you’ll find a Reconstruction Device that can activate specific Amorphous Patterns.
Here’s a list of all the patterns and what you can get from them:
Material Pattern | Rewards And Drop Chances |
---|---|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 029 |
|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 030 |
|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 031 |
|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 032 |
|
In each intercept battle I encounter, I can only open up one Amorphous Pattern at a time. However, by employing a Shape Stabilizer, I can boost my chances of receiving a more uncommon item from the pattern I’ve unlocked.
Tips To Beat Devourer
For an effortless victory in this interception battle, it’s essential that you select the optimal equipment, including the suitable descendants, modules, and weapons. Here is a list of recommended descendants, modules, and weapons for defeating the Devourer effectively.
Best Descendants
Here are the top Descendants to use against the Devourer in The First Descendant:
- Bunny: A popular choice for almost every Intercept battle due to her speed. She can dodge all the Devourer’s attacks, including the Toxin Nukes, and inflicts substantial damage with her skills.
- Lepic: One of the best DPS Descendants, ideal for quickly clearing the Devourer’s Rage Mode and eliminating the constantly spawning mobs.
In regards to Descendant Modules, always ensure you have the Toxin Antibody active for defense, maximizing toxin resistance. For an offensive boost, opt for Electric Mastery modules in your weapon setup to amplify your Electric Attack.
Furthermore, should you acquire a Recovery Weakener module, installing it would greatly aid in handling Rage Mode more effectively.
Best Weapons
In preparing for this upcoming fight, I’d recommend selecting weapons that have a ‘Piercing’ attribute, like Handguns, Sniper Rifles, Beam Rifles, and Assault Rifles with an ‘Electric Attack’ enhancement. Strive to achieve a DPS (Damage Per Second) of at least 20,000 or more for the best chance of defeating this boss. A higher DPS would be even better.
Instead of weaponizing items with Toxin Attack boosters because they’ll speed up the enemy’s Rage Meter, leading to a tougher fight, opt for Electric Enhancement and Electric Priority modules on your weapons to amplify their Electrical Attack power.
