As someone who’s been through countless battles against formidable foes in The First Descendant, I can confidently say that taking down the Pyromaniac is no walk in the park. This fiery adversary boasts an enormous health pool and resistances that make it a real challenge to defeat. But fear not, dear fellow adventurer! With the right weapons, modules, and Descendants, you too can emerge victorious from this blazing battle.
In this game, titled “The First Descendant,” there are challenging combat sequences known as Void Intercept battles, which pit players against colossal enemies called Vulgus. These enemies possess a variety of attack strategies and mechanics. These battles are not only intense but also highly lucrative PvE stages. To access any of the end-game characters or Ultimate Weapons, you’ll need to conquer numerous instances of these fights.
One of these battles is against the level 66 Colossus the Pyromaniac. This Void Intercept battle is quite difficult, especially when it’s your first time clearing this stage because of this boss’s attacks that can potentially one-shot you. To avoid getting killed and beating the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant, here’s a complete guide for this Void Intercept battle.
How to Beat Pyromaniac in The First Descendant
In the game “The First Descendant,” the Pyromaniac is the sixth boss encountered in the Void Intercept. Advancing through the main storyline and gaining access to the Hagios Region requires defeating this particular adversary. Unlike other Void Intercept bosses, the Pyromaniac has a stronger resistance to standard weapon damage, but is more susceptible to skill-based attacks from Descendants.
Pyromaniac Resistances
The Pyromaniac is one of the few Void Intercept bosses that has a lot of literal firepower. There are multiple fire-based attacks in its arsenal, thus having fire resistance is a must to survive in this battle. You’ll need at least 2,100 Fire Resistance stats to tank most of the attacks from this boss. Consequently, you’ll also have to bring weapons with Cold ATK modifiers to deal additional element damage with your attacks.
Pyromaniac Weak Points
Although the boss appears impervious to regular attacks, you can still focus on specific areas for increased damage or even momentarily stun it. These vulnerable spots, as with every Void Intercept fight, are identifiable using your Descendant’s Ecive Scanner. Here is a list of all the weak points of the Pyromaniac colossus:
- Sensor (Destructible) – Located on its Head
- Core Cover (Destructible) – Located on its Chest
- Balancer (Destructible) – Located on its Knees
- Core (Removable) – Located on its Chest
- Shoulders (Removable) – Located on its Shoulders
When you’re trying to attack weak points, prioritize the
Core Cover followed by the Balancer.
While the Sensor can be hard to target, destroying the Core Cover allows you to attack the exposed Core on its chest, which can stagger the Pyromaniac.
Pyromaniac Attacks, Explained
The Pyromaniac Colossus resembles the Executioner in structure and possesses numerous similar attacks. Although you can dodge most of these moves with precise timing, some are invincible to dodging, making them challenging to overcome. Here’s a comprehensive rundown of all the Pyromaniac’s attacks and strategies for countering them:
- Flamethrower: The most common attack of the Pyromaniac is the Flamethrower, which is aimed towards the closest player. This attack doesn’t deal burst damage, rather constantly deals fire damage while also inflicting burn debuff. This doesn’t break structures, so you can hide behind structures or grapple away to dodge this.
- Flame Orbs: The Pyromanaic shoots some huge flame orbs from the blasters in its hand. These orbs slowly follow the player and explode on reaching proximity. These orbs can also break strictures, so the best way to avoid this is by grappling as far away as possible. You can get KO-ed by 3-4 Orb hits, even with good resistance.
- Flame Slash: The Pyromaniac raises the sword in its hands, and cleaves a massive area in front of it, dealing heavy fire damage in a cone-shaped area. Even though this is an AoE attack, it deals a lot of damage and most Descendants caught in it will get KO-ed. If you’re close to the boss, it’s a guaranteed hit, so it’s best to keep your distance at all times.
- Flame Slam: This is the Pyromaniac’s ultimate attack during its enraged state. The boss will jump into the air, and the screen whites out. You’ll be teleported into the air, and fall into a red zone where the Pyromaniac slams down from the sky, dealing massive damage. This is a one-hit KO if you don’t get out of the red zone in time. The best way to dodge this is by spamming dashes or grappling out as soon as possible.
In addition to these assaults, you should be vigilant for regularly appearing Flame Chains on the battlefield. These chains grow in size, cause significant damage, and impose a burn debuff. It’s best to maintain a safe distance from them.
Pyromaniac Rage Mode
Just like other Void Intercept bosses, the Pyromaniac possesses an Enraged State, but managing it is relatively straightforward if you respond promptly. In the battle against this boss, numerous mobs called Hummingbirds will appear behind the Pyromaniac and build up its rage meter. By focusing on these Hummingbirds, you can slow down the activation of Rage Mode.
When the Pyromaniac reaches its Enraged State, it will become invulnerable to harm; however, a red tank on its back remains vulnerable. Damaging this tank will deactivate Rage Mode, making it advantageous for you to act swiftly.
Pyromaniac Loot in The First Descendant
If you manage to defeat the Pyromaniac colossus in the game The First Descendant, the boss will reward you with several high-grade weapons (Epic) and modules (Legendary), which have levels ranging from 65 to 70. Additionally, a Reconstruction Device will be dropped, allowing you to unlock specific Amorphous Patterns.

Tips To Beat Pyromaniac
Even if you’re able to dodge most of the one-hit KO attacks and survive the Rage Mode, beating the Pyromaniac can still be tough because of the boss’s massive health pool and resistance. To ensure that you don’t get timed out, you’ll need the right weapons, modules as well as Descendants. So, here are some tips to beat the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant.
Best Descendants
Here are the top Descendants to use against the Pyromaniac:
- Bunny (also Ultimate Bunny): Since the Pyromaniac is vulnerable to Descendant skill damage, Bunny is a great choice for dishing out tons of DPS from her ultimate skill. Moreover, her mobility can be used to dodge most of this boss’s attacks.
- Viessa: Not only does Viessa have strong debuffing abilities, but she can also deal Chill-type Skill damage, which is highly effective against the Pyromaniac. Apart from that, she can significantly boost any Chill ATK from weapons as well.
To endure certain attacks from the boss for Descendant Modules, ensure you’ve got the Fire Antibody and Fire Resist Maximizer modules installed. Additionally, add Chill Mastery modules to enhance your Chill ATK, causing additional harm.
Best Weapons
In this upcoming fight, consider arming yourself with ‘Piercing’ weaponry, like ‘Sniper Rifles’ and ‘Hand Cannons’, that have a ‘Chilling Attack’ boost. Additionally, enhancing your weapons with ‘Chill Enhancement’ and ‘Chill Priority’ modules can further amplify the ‘Chilling Attack’ enhancement.
