As a veteran gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing The First Descendant‘s latest update news. On one hand, I appreciate the developer’s transparency and their efforts to improve the game’s content. But on the other, as someone who’s been around long enough to remember the days of eagerly awaiting monthly updates, it feels like a step back.
Today on X’s latest update, producer Lee Beom-jun revealed a change in the release schedule for Season 1 of The First Descendant. Instead of the initial plan for three updates, there will now be only two, with the fall updates being rescheduled to October 10, 2024.
In response to the criticism from fans after announcing the three-part structure for Season 1 of Invasion yesterday, the producer admitted they hadn’t met fan expectations fully and offered an apology. They explained, “To be honest, I didn’t quite deliver as you all expected.”
Originally, the schedule for Season 1 had two distinct updates planned – one on September 26, 2024, and another on October 30, 2024. Lee Beom-jun stated that this was to ensure regular monthly updates, with an update before each new content release. In simpler terms, they wanted to give updates every month, prior to the launch of fresh content.

Starting today, The First Descendant’s October 10th release will combine all the content from both autumnal updates during Season 1. This means Ultimate Freyna, challenging infiltrations, additional equipment, and other features will now be available in a single update.
Today’s article shares that Lee Beom-jun disclosed they are exploring ways to adjust the schedules for future seasons as well. In other words, the upcoming seasons may follow a revised timeline.
Additionally, they mentioned that “the Development team is focusing on regular upgrades and quick fixes,” adjusting their workflow, and expanding their team with new hires.
Last month, The First Descendant launched its significant initial content upgrade, along with a few summer vacation-inspired character skins. The first season of the Invasion event is set to start on August 29, 2024.
