As a long-time aficionado of the chilling world of horror, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation as I read about the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel TV series titled Crystal Lake. Having grown up on the terrifying tales of Jason Voorhees and his blood-curdling rampage, this announcement has me eagerly awaiting the return of one of my favorite slasher villains.

Despite the announcement in 2022 that a Friday the 13th prequel TV series titled Crystal Lake was on the horizon, fans of the horror genre have been eagerly waiting to catch another glimpse of the infamous villain Jason Voorhees. However, as JoBlo revealed, the showrunner has recently provided a brief update.

Brad Caleb Kane shared on Instagram that ‘scripts are currently being developed and will continue to be,’ which undoubtedly brings positive vibes. Kane’s message read as follows:

I’m unable to share much at the moment, but let me tell you, things are moving behind the scenes. The story has been shattered, scripts have been drafted and are being refined with the aim of providing fans (including myself) an edge-of-the-seat, thrilling, gory, and fulfilling journey that’s worth every moment of anticipation. More updates will be coming in the new year, unless… well, you know how things can turn out sometimes.

By August 2024, Deadline announced that Kane had assumed the role of showrunner for the Crystal Lake series. Previously, Bryan Fuller, who was in charge of Hannibal, stepped down in May 2024, stating, “A24 has chosen to explore a different path with the content.” Currently, Kane is responsible for penning, directing, and overseeing the production of the show.

The TV series set on Friday the 13th, streaming on Peacock, serves as a prequel, and despite having watched all ten films in the franchise, fans remain thrilled for more of the iconic character, Jason. With his chilling hockey mask showing no trace of emotion, Jason stands out among other slasher villains. Since this series takes place before the infamous Crystal Lake summer camp, viewers can anticipate uncovering more about Jason’s past.

Kane is currently overseeing two horror prequel series, which includes his role as showrunner for the Pennywise series titled “It: Welcome to Derry,” set to premiere on HBO Max. The upcoming origin tales of these chilling villains promise an exhilarating viewing experience. Similar to Pennywise, Jason is a non-human entity with a terrifying appearance, and he’s known for his ruthless attacks. While Pennywise lurks in the sewers of a small Maine town and Jason haunts Camp Crystal Lake, these villains share an unforgettable eeriness that leaves a lasting impression.

As TV Line reported, final girl Adrienne King speculated that the show might debut in 2024, but that hasn’t materialized yet. Currently, there’s no confirmed release date, though some media outlets have pondered if it could happen in 2025. Regardless of when Crystal Lake eventually appears on Peacock, horror enthusiasts are eagerly waiting to witness the return of the terrifying Jason Voorhees.
