The Frostpunk 2 soundtrack ‘Sounds of Frostland’ is announced

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of frosty adventures under my belt, I can’t help but feel a shiver of anticipation at the news of Frostpunk 2’s official soundtrack, “Sounds of Frostland.” Having survived countless winters in the original game, I know all too well the chilling effect its music had on me. But this time, they’re going big – an orchestra with a heavier sound? Count me in!

11 Bit Studios unveiled today the official Frostpunk 2 soundtrack titled “Sounds of Frostland,” designed to intensify your frigid, desolate survival experience. As 11 Bit Studios plans to grow and offer more decision-making opportunities for managing the now-established frozen city in the upcoming sequel to their acclaimed city-survival game, a similar strategy was employed when creating the music. The Frostpunk 2 soundtrack seeks to preserve the legacy of its predecessor while offering something fresh and distinctive within the game, all while keeping the music’s chilling impact on players intact.

In their latest video, Music Composer Piotr Musiał and Sound Designer Krzysztof Lipka delve into upholding the heritage of Frostpunk. They explore how music magnifies the expanse of the frostland, and how they incorporate unconventional sounds such as steam engine hums, mechanical noises, and even crowd roars, which are key elements in the innovative musical approach that Frostpunk 2 employs for its game soundtrack.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the prospect of delving into the Frostpunk 2 soundtrack, “Sounds of Frostland”, being showcased in the new video below, has me genuinely excited. The original Frostpunk was a masterpiece that transported us to a frozen, post-apocalyptic world, and the music played a significant role in setting the mood and atmosphere. I’m eager to see how the soundtrack for its sequel builds upon that foundation and immerses players even deeper into the Frostland. So, without further ado, I urge you all to take a peek at this video below and join me on this musical journey through the frozen wasteland.

As a gaming enthusiast, I found the original, iconic music from Frostpunk, beautifully played by a gifted string quartet, simply too cozy for the grandeur of its sequel. This time around, Piotr and his team opted for an expansive orchestra with a more robust sound. This change allows players to truly experience the vastness of the city and the gravity of their choices.

They aimed to make the music more in tune with the game by finding instruments that mirrored the raw, grim atmosphere of Frostpunk’s world, where people scavenge scraps and outdated machinery to survive. One such instrument, known as the Ghost Cello, is a crucial element that can create primitive tunes on one side but also generate captivating futuristic melodies on the other.

In Frostpunk 2, another crucial aspect lies in the portrayal of the populace. The way players interact with the crowd varies based on factors such as the city’s scale, the level of tension, and numerous other real-time variables.

On September 20, 2024, Frostpunk 2 will debut on PC platforms, and it’ll be available for download on PC Game Pass from the very first day. A console release will follow at a later date.
