Currently, *Hades 2* is the top-rated new game released this year, but it’s not yet available on PlayStation 5 or Xbox. The full version, 1.0, launched five years after the incredibly popular original *Hades*. Like the first game, *Hades 2* has received fantastic reviews and shares many of the same beloved qualities.
The acclaimed game *Hades* first launched on PC and Nintendo Switch, remaining exclusive to Nintendo consoles for a limited time. It later became available on PlayStation and Xbox, and eventually on iOS devices. Now, its sequel, *Hades 2*, appears to be following the same release pattern – the full game is available now, but not yet on PlayStation 5 or Xbox.
Hades 2 is now available on PC and Nintendo Switch, and remains exclusive to Nintendo consoles, including the new Nintendo Switch 2. While there’s no official word on how long it will stay exclusive, the first Hades game was a Nintendo exclusive for 11 months. It’s possible we’ll see Hades 2 on PlayStation and Xbox before the end of the year, but 2026 seems like a more likely timeframe. Until Supergiant Games shares more details, fans can only speculate. The anticipation is high because Hades 2 is currently the highest-rated new game released in 2025.

Review aggregator Metacritic has given *Hades 2* a score of 94, making it the highest-rated game on the site, surpassing *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33* (93), *Hollow Knight: Silksong* and *Blue Prince* (both 92), *Split Fiction* and *Donkey Kong Bananza* (both 91), and *Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter* (90). OpenCritic, which uses a different set of reviews, shows *Hades 2*, *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, and *Hollow Knight: Silksong* all tied with a score of 92.
It’s a shame that PlayStation 5 and Xbox players can’t currently enjoy the top game of 2025, but it’s worth remembering that some highly-rated games aren’t available on Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2. For example, *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33* and *Blue Prince* don’t have Switch versions yet. Luckily, all of 2025’s best games *are* playable on PC. However, if you want to play everything on consoles, you’ll need to own more than one of the newest systems.
