As a movie critic, I must say that the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us is proving to be an emotional and gripping ride. The first episode was a tense prelude to the impending chaos, leaving viewers on edge for what was to come. But boy, were we in for a shock with the second episode! Joel’s heart-wrenching demise shook us all to our core, setting the stage for a new chapter in Ellie’s life.
Despite seeking assistance from Jackson to avenge Joel’s death, Ellie found herself forced into taking matters into her own hands to exact revenge on Abby and her group for their heinous actions against Joel. This season has been nothing short of a roller coaster, with Ellie’s transformative journey serving as the central focus while she searches for redemption. It’s been an emotionally charged ride so far!
In the fourth episode of “The Last of Us” Season 2, Ellie (portrayed by Bella Ramsey) and Dina (played by Isabel Merced) face the horrors that come with their journey. As they struggle against these challenges, one might wonder if anything has changed in their dynamic. Let’s delve into the events of Episode 4 of this HBO series to find out more.
Isaac’s Dark Past And The Origins Of The Washington Liberation Front Revealed
Episode 4 opens with a flashback scene, introducing viewers to Isaac Dixon (portrayed by Jeffrey Wright). Isaac, serving as one of the commanding officers in the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA), was patrolling the Seattle Quarantine Zone alongside his team. During their patrol, one of his team members began sharing a tale about the “voters.” The team member remarked that another soldier had murdered some voters who were distributing pamphlets claiming FEDRA was corrupt. When someone inquired as to why they referred to them as “voters,” Isaac intervened and explained that these individuals were labeled as “voters” because their voting rights had been taken away.
However, their discussion comes to a halt as they notice a crowd approaching their vehicle. They appeared unarmed and seemed open to dialogue. Instead of escalating the situation with unnecessary force, Isaac chose to step out and engage them in conversation. He exited the vehicle and spoke to one of the women, who recognized him. “Are you Isaac?” she inquired. Isaac confirmed this, then asked if she was Hanrahan. The woman affirmed, leading Isaac to return to his vehicle, plant two grenades within, thereby eliminating his team. Only one FEDRA member survived, and he teamed up with Isaac to establish the Washington Liberation Front.
Ellie And Dina Share An Emotional Moment In Seattle That’ll Be Familiar To Fans Of The Games

After eleven years, Ellie and Dina are still on their quest in Seattle, searching for Abby and her group. However, they soon discover that the WLF could be more extensive than they initially thought. Upon seeing a large building, they learn it could encompass the entire area, necessitating extreme caution. Consequently, they seek shelter within a music store and decide to travel at night. Inside the store, Dina searches for food and supplies. While scavenging for medical items, she finds what appears to be pregnancy test kits.
Alternatively, Ellie strolls through the shop and discovers a guitar tucked away in a case. She takes it out of the case and begins to croon a tune.
Shortly afterward, Dina arrives and finds Ellie strumming a guitar and crooning a tune that stirred Dina deeply. Despite Ellie stopping upon noticing Dina, Dina asked her to carry on playing. Graciously agreeing, Ellie resumed singing for Dina. The words of the song moved Dina to tears, and it appeared as though Dina was growing increasingly enamored with Ellie. As the music concluded, Dina brushed away her tears and praised Ellie’s performance as stunning. Ellie acknowledged Joel as her instructor for playing this particular piece, and they both decided to grab a bite to eat afterward.
Isaac Confronts A Captive Seraphite As Tensions Between WLF And Scars Boil Over

Currently, Isaac is found in the act of cooking and sharing a tale about his long-held dream of owning Mauviel cookware for his kitchen. Despite now possessing them, he never imagined the circumstances would be as drastically different due to the apocalypse. Later on, it’s disclosed that Isaac shared this anecdote with a member of the Seraphites who had been apprehended by the WLF. This particular individual, known as Scars, was visibly injured with blood and bruises when Isaac inquired about the Seraphites’ next attack location. Scars informed Isaac that the WLF would not emerge victorious from this conflict, and their defeat is imminent. Isaac found this notion humorous since the Seraphites persist in believing they can win despite the WLF having sophisticated weapons and hospitals at their disposal, while the Seraphites rely only on bows, arrows, and superstitions.
As the dialogue unfolded, Isaac disclosed the reason for the broken truce and explained that the Seraphites were teaching their kids to aim at them. When Isaac inquired about their defeat, Scar responded that the truth about the WLF would surface, and daily, individuals would exit the WLF to side with the Seraphites. Despite Isaac’s efforts to punish him, Scar had grown tired of the game, ultimately ending his life by shooting Scar dead.
Ellie And Dina Face Brutal WLF Murders, Infected Threats, And A Shocking Reveal

At long last, night has fallen, and Ellie and Dina are ready to resume their adventure. However, they’re still undecided about their destination. As it turns out, there appears to be no patrol activity nearby, but Ellie is cautious, as she knows that absence of patrolling isn’t always a good sign. They decide to venture into the building before them and are confronted with a shocking sight: several members of the WLF with their intestines spilling from their bodies, victims of a brutal attack. Dina can barely stomach the gruesome scene and vomits. Ellie, on the other hand, notices a Seraphites logo on the wall and informs Dina that this violence was likely perpetrated by the group they previously encountered in the woods. As they prepare to depart, more WLF members arrive at the building, only to find their comrades brutally murdered—apparently killed by the Seraphites.
In a turn of events, Ellie navigates the stairs to draw attention and is soon confronted by one of the WLF soldiers. She defends herself, but when it seemed she might be overpowered, Dina intervenes, shooting a soldier dead on the spot. In response, Ellie takes down another WLF member. They then escape from the building, making their way into another structure that leads to a subway system. Upon exiting the subway, they notice several WLF personnel approaching and hunting them down. Managing to evade capture, they soon discover an infestation of infected individuals within the subway. Dina initially counts five, but soon realizes there are more than five present. This leads to a standoff with a WLF soldier. To escape the situation, Ellie and Dina flee from the infected horde, killing some along the way.
The situation worsens for them as Ellie is bitten while trying to save Dina from an infected creature. They manage to eliminate the threat and escape. Upon entering another building for safety, Dina points a gun at Ellie because she believes Ellie will transform into a zombie due to the Cordyceps infection. Without hesitation, Ellie reveals that she’s immune to the infection, having been bitten before. She asks Dina to wait and promises to shoot her if she transforms. After some time, Ellie demonstrates that she hasn’t changed, leading an emotional Dina to reveal that she’s pregnant. The next day, they both confess their love for each other, with Ellie expressing a desire to raise the baby with Dina. The episode concludes with them searching for Abby following news of disturbances at Lakehill. Upon arriving, they realize they must proceed cautiously. Ellie suggests Dina can rest if she wants, but Dina insists they’ll face this together.
