Spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2 and Episode 1 spoilers.
After a long wait for enthusiasts of “The Last of Us”, season 2 has arrived at last! Given that the resuming season intends to closely follow Naughty Dog’s sequel, “The Last of Us Part 2”, game fans are eagerly anticipating numerous exciting and entertaining Easter eggs during its second installment. Nevertheless, gamers weren’t quite prepared for such a charming and heartwarming Easter egg to appear so soon, prompting them to react with excitement similar to the Leonardo DiCaprio meme.
In the second season of “The Last of Us,” we find Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in Jackson, Wyoming, five years after the end of season 1, with the story continuing from their journey towards the town following a tense conversation. The debut episode of “The Last of Us” season 2, despite being just an hour long, has already incorporated several crucial moments and references taken directly from the video game. Some Easter eggs in “The Last of Us” season 2 that fans have spotted include Ellie’s dance with Dina and her journal, but one subtle detail that delighted enthusiasts is its inclusion.
The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 1 Includes an Adorable Dog Named Employee of the Month
In July, the Greenplace Market features a heartwarming scene where a canine employee is honored as Employee of the Month. This is reminiscent of the game where Ellie needed to decipher the ‘Good Boy Combo’ to unlock a nearby safe filled with loot. The combination code was found on the dog’s profile.
As an avid fan of The Last of Us, I can’t contain my excitement and curiosity over the recent Easter egg that left fans buzzing! The creators’ clever inclusion of a nod to the game has us all on the edge of our seats, eagerly waiting to see what other surprises Season 2 might hold. One fan on Reddit exclaimed, “When they showed the wall, I was hoping they’d show the dog, please show the dog!” Another enthusiast added, “If they wanted to put the cherry on top, Ellie would have been looking at a safe.” The sheer joy that filled me when the dog’s picture popped up in the scene was overwhelming – it’s safe to say I yelled at my TV for the first time ever! Haha.
In episode one, astute viewers might have noticed a few nods to the original games as well. For instance, a memorable scene between Dina and Ellie while they danced replicated a line from the game verbatim, with Dina saying, “Oh Ellie, I think they should be terrified of you,” identical to her dialogue in the game. Similarly, when Dina and Ellie explored the market, Ellie used an empty bottle to lure a clicker out, similar to how players often use bottles in combat situations during gameplay. Lastly, Ellie’s room was adorned with posters of “Savage Starlight,” the same ones found in the original game titled “The Last of Us.
A new episode of The Last Of Us Season 2 will now premiere on HBO every Sunday until May 25.
