From Roshio’s curb-stomping debut to Macro’s fishy misadventures, these pirate captains have left such a minimal impression on the Grand Line that they might as well be part of the sea floor stroll.

A compelling reason for considering One Piece as the best anime ever made lies in the extensive character development that mangaka Oda provides to many of the secondary characters. Even ordinary civilians without combat skills frequently receive poignant and emotional backstories, which viewers find hard not to empathize with.

Finding unmemorable pirate captains in “One Piece” can be quite challenging due to the extensive roster of characters created by Oda. This vastness sometimes means that certain characters receive less focus or attention compared to others.

After an unsuccessful journey to the Grand Line, Krieg was left battered and bruised.

It’s quite surprising, actually, that Don Krieg isn’t particularly standout during his debut scene, overshadowed not just by the main characters like Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, but even by the secondary characters. What makes this more striking is that his fight is easily overlooked due to Dracule Mihawk’s introduction right after, a character who is both more memorable and significantly stronger.

7 Demalo Black

First Appearance: Return to Sabaody Arc

During the Return to Sabaody Arc after the time-skip, there’s a character named Demalo Black, who portrays the overweight version of Luffy. This impersonator crosses paths with the genuine article. Although this odd circumstance might make him recognizable, some viewers might not grasp that Demalo is not simply a Sabody gang leader pretending to be Fake Luffy alongside his crew for amusement, but rather a pirate captain with a legitimate bounty on his head.

Following his brief comic interlude, Demalo quickly fades into obscurity once the Pacifistas assault Luffy, revealing himself to be an ineffective joke.

Although Diez Barrels played a crucial role in the storyline, he lacked notable accomplishments, legendary battles, or intriguing backstory that would captivate fans. He was a treacherous pirate captain who met his end at the hands of Donquixote Doflamingo and soon faded into obscurity in history’s records.

First Appearance: Thriller Bark Arc

Captain Goo once possessed the shadows that gave life to his pirate team, but these were swiped by Gecko Moria, a peculiar character with a Shadow Devil Fruit ability. Consequently, Goo and his crew found themselves trapped on Thriller Bark, as they could no longer endure daylight without their shadows.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share my perspective on Goo, a pirate captain who, unlike many of his peers, didn’t possess any unique Devil Fruit abilities that set him apart from the crowd. His story unfolded within the captivating world of the anime, where he was initially introduced as an insignificant figure. However, his fortunes took a turn when he was rescued by the legendary Straw Hat crew, following Luffy’s triumph over Moria. Unfortunately for Goo, this act of kindness did not result in a lasting friendship, and he vanished into obscurity, never to be seen or heard from again.

4 Bizarre

Bizzare Pirates

First Appearance: Marineford Arc

Among the pirate captains associated with the Whitebeard fleet, Bizzare was one. Compared to other well-known captains such as Marco the Phoenix and Blackbeard, he tends to be less prominent in memory within the Whitebeard crew.

His sole documented combat occurred during the Marineford Arc, a conflict aimed at rescuing Ace from execution. However, this battle was significantly outshone by other significant occurrences such as Luffy’s race to reach Ace and Whitebeard’s final stand.

His character is mainly recognized for defeating an insignificant pirate off-screen, which was primarily used to introduce Bellamy’s Boing-Boing Devil Fruit abilities. Later on in the Egghead Arc, it might be challenging for viewers to recall where they had previously seen him.

Feeling disheartened and considering disbanding his pirate crew due to this vulnerability, he finds renewed resolve before Chopper finishes healing him.

First Appearance: Hatchan’s Sea-Floor Stroll (Manga-only)

Unlike Marco, the Phoenix, Macro was a pirate captain who happened to be a fishman. He established his own crew following his departure from the famed Sun Pirates. Similar to other fishmen, Macro does not derive his power from Devil Fruits; instead, he employs Fishman Karate to subdue his adversaries. However, it’s worth noting that Macro is a less powerful representation of a fishman, earning him the label of a typical supporting character.

Macro and his team make two appearances in the story, both instances involving pursuit of Camie, the mermaid. On both occasions, they suffer defeats at the hands of Hatchan, being soundly beaten each time, similar to how Team Rocket is often defeated by Pikachu in Pokémon. They manage to cross paths with the Straw Hat crew only once, joining forces with the Flying Fish Riders to attack them; however, their encounter ends quickly as Hatchan delivers a powerful punch that sends them flying away, much like how Team Rocket blasts off at the end of an episode.
