The Library Level is ‘Being Fixed’ for Halo: Campaign Evolved

The generally disliked level from the original Halo: Combat Evolved is being updated in the remastered version, Halo: Campaign Evolved.

As a huge Halo fan, I was so excited to hear they’re completely remaking the original Halo: Combat Evolved! It’s called Halo: Campaign Evolved, and it’ll let us relive the iconic story of Master Chief and Cortana battling the Covenant to save everything. What’s really cool is it’s just the campaign – they’re focusing on making that experience amazing. And get this – it’s coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 in 2026! The developers even talked to Xbox Wire about making some changes to the infamous Library level, which is awesome to hear. I can’t wait!

Halo: Campaign Evolved is Changing The Library Level, Developers Confirm

In a recent post on Xbox Wire, the team behind the Halo: Combat Evolved remake discussed the changes they’re making. Max Szlagor, the game’s Creative Director, explained that some levels are being significantly reworked compared to the Anniversary Edition, with the notorious ‘Library’ level receiving particular attention. Szlagor stated,

According to a recent blog post, the team behind the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary remaster discovered players wanted clearer guidance, easier navigation, and more varied enemy fights. They focused on improving these areas, particularly in levels like The Library, which features many Flood encounters. They’ve added new dialogue for Guilty Spark to help players find their way and added context to the story through new conversations, but haven’t changed the core narrative. The goal is to make the experience smoother and more engaging, helping players stay focused on the action.

As a huge Halo fan, I always dreaded The Library level in Combat Evolved – seriously, endless Flood and a really frustrating layout! But I’m so glad to hear that players new to the series, especially those on PlayStation, won’t have to go through that! And I’m really excited about the new dialogue they’re adding for Guilty Spark; that character and the lore around him are so cool and deserve more attention. From what the developers have said, they’re making a lot of changes, which means even long-time fans like me will have plenty of fresh stuff to experience!
