As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the Marvel Rivals universe, I’ve had my fair share of encounters with these characters. Some are powerhouses, others are… well, let’s just say they need a little more polish.
With Marvel Rivals now having been released for a while, more and more players are getting comfortable with their primary characters, and the game’s dominant strategies (the meta) are starting to emerge. Much like in many multiplayer games, certain heroes are proving popular among players, while others might be underutilized due to feeling unimpressive or weak.
This rundown features 7 Marvel Rivals characters who might not be the most potent, yet remain enjoyable to use, whether their complexity makes them hard to master or they simply lack power compared to other heroes. While these characters may not excel in competitive, high-ranked play right now, they’re certain to provide a good time during casual matches.
7. Peni Parker
Hard To Learn But Fun To Play
- Vanguard
- Difficulty: 4 Stars
Peni Parker can be an absolute nightmare to deal with, thanks to her self-healing, stunning, and invisible spider mines. On top of that, her ultimate ability can clear an objective with ease, flinging enemies away and coating everything in mines. Despite this, she still falls behind other Vanguards in terms of impact on the game.
Due to a complex setup that might be challenging for beginners, Peni could appear daunting for new players to grasp. In fact, many players often prefer choosing a tank with a more straightforward set of abilities tailored specifically towards tanking. However, despite this initial impression, Peni remains a character worth trying out, as mastering her abilities can result in an exhilarating gaming experience.
6. Magik
Master Magic And Steel
- Duelist
- Difficulty: 3 Stars
Magik is an awesome character from a visual and conceptual perspective, harnessing the power of Limbo to blink in and out of existence, summon demons, and transform herself into an unstoppable beast. Despite this, she can struggle in games without a cohesive team, as she shines when able to flank an enemy backline, requiring the rest of her team to hold the tanks away from her.
As a fan, I’d say if you can skillfully outmaneuver an opponent’s defense line and get up close to their squishier heroes, wielding Magik feels absolutely empowering! She slices through them with ease, all while boosting her own health with each strike. However, it’s crucial to keep your distance from enemy tanks, as they might outmatch her strength. In my opinion, she’s definitely a character worth trying!
5. Black Widow
Pin-Point Precision
- Duelist
- Difficulty: 4 Stars
When playing Black Widow in gaming, just like any other sniper character, precision is crucial for success. Her effectiveness relies heavily on the player’s ability to hit their targets accurately. However, her other abilities don’t seem to compensate much for this need for accuracy. Consequently, she may find herself at a disadvantage against characters like Hawkeye, who shares a similar role but with fewer drawbacks.
Regardless of the challenges, mastering sniping with Black Widow is worth the investment, offering one of the most gratifying sensations in Marvel Rivals. However, it can also be quite aggravating for opponents to face. Instead, concentrate on taking out their healers, while allowing the rest of their team to feel the pressure.
4. Adam Warlock
Revive Allies And Share Their Damage
- Strategist
- Difficulty: 3 Stars
In the Marvel Rivals lineup, Adam Warlock stands out as a distinctive healer due to his ability to resurrect allies using his ultimate skill. However, despite his potential to perform substantial healing, Adam Warlock may seem underpowered compared to other Strategist characters because it can be quite challenging to execute his healing effectively.
An exceptional Adam Warlock has the ability to rule a game, and there’s nothing more thrilling than resurrecting the whole squad in the nick of time to secure a point and triumph in the match.
3. Storm
Float Above The Battlefield And Shock Enemies
- Duelist
- Difficulty: 3 Stars
It’s generally agreed that Storm is one of the least potent Duelists in the game. Her slow movement speed and typical health levels make her quite challenging to play against compared to other, stronger Duelists. In fact, many players dismiss her as an inferior version of Iron Man and opt not to use her.
Regardless of her flaws, Storm proves to be an enjoyable character in suitable game settings, and her ultimate ability serves as a potent area-blocking tool. She’s definitely worth experimenting with, even if one ultimately chooses not to use her again. However, keep an eye out for Airborne Wolverine; he has the knack of snatching Storm from the skies effortlessly.
2. Loki
God Of Mischief And Healing
- Strategist
- Difficulty: 4 Stars
The god of mischief is undeniably fun to play, being able to flood the map with clones, teleport around, output decent damage, and dish out impressive healing. To top it off, his ultimate allowing the player to become a clone of another hero can lead to some incredibly funny moments.
Loki can find it tough when operating alone, and his recovery process demands a certain level of skill to perform correctly. This often makes him seem less formidable compared to characters like Cloak & Dagger and Luna Snow. Nevertheless, he is an enjoyable character to play, as nothing beats the satisfaction of snatching Jeff The Land Shark’s ultimate and obliterating the entire enemy team with it.
1. Magneto
Harness The Power Of Magnetism
- Vanguard
- Difficulty: 2 Stars
The last character on our roster is Magneto. Compared to some others here, he’s not as weak, yet he’s used less frequently than most Vanguards in the game. His skills are straightforward and he can dish out reasonable ranged damage, but his primary downfall is getting overpowered by melee combatants, specifically Duelists.
In one-on-one combat, Magneto manages to keep up, but he’s not as effective against DPS heroes like Groot and Venom when it comes to tanking. However, it’s amusing to see him take enemy fire with his ultimate ability and retaliate by unleashing a destructive meteor strike. His team-up power with Scarlet Witch also provides some entertaining moments.
