The highly acclaimed fantasy series known as “Game of Thrones” has undeniably left an indelible mark, maintaining its allure even following a controversial finale. The buzz surrounding “House of the Dragon” underscores the continued demand for content within this captivating universe.
In the original run of this series, I’ve witnessed the blossoming of heartwarming relationships that transform into something truly remarkable. The camaraderie that unfolds among my favorite characters is simply captivating, as they bravely confront seemingly impossible challenges together. Some succumb to these overpowering hardships, while others rise above them, proving victorious. This emotional journey has left a lasting impact on fans like me.
8. Davos Seaworth & Shireen Baratheon
A Wholesome Friendship With A Tragic Ending
- Starts Developing In: Kissed by Fire (Season 3, Episode 5)
Davos Seaworth is among the most endearing characters from the series, who, despite his smuggler background, found himself in a tight bond with Stannis Baratheon following a reprieve for his wrongdoings. He not only proves to be a shrewd and resourceful strategist but also watching his affectionate relationship unfold with his liege’s daughter is truly captivating.
Watching Davos and Shireen’s interactions is heartwarming, as they frequently share sweet moments throughout the show. It’s no wonder that Davos became deeply saddened and developed intense dislike for Melisandre after she persuaded Stannis to carry out a cruel act by sacrificing his daughter.
7. Daenerys Targaryen & Missandei
Daenerys And Her Handmaiden Form A Deep And Trusting Bond

- Starts Developing In: Walk of Punishment (Season 3, Episode 3)
Prior to her death in the last season, Daenerys stood out as an exceptionally captivating character. She placed loyalty above all other considerations. Following Missandei’s liberation from slavery, Daenerys welcomed her as a handmaiden and their bond grew into a strong friendship.
It’s understandable that Daenerys’ anger erupted following the cold-blooded murder of her handmaiden by Cersei. Yet, her subsequent destructive actions on King’s Landing – actions that Missandei, no doubt, would have disapproved of – cannot be justified.
6. Jaime Lannister & Brienne Of Tarth
An Unlikely Friendship That Could’ve Blossomed Into Something Beautiful

- Starts Developing In: Valar Morghulis (Season 2, Episode 10)
Following Catelyn Stark’s instruction, Brienne sets out to assert control over Jaime Lannister, often referred to as the Kingslayer. Time after time, this formidable woman demonstrates her mastery in combat, leaving Jaime awestruck by Brienne’s remarkable strength and power.
Over time, they grew to admire each other deeply, a feeling that might have grown into something profound. Had Jaime not been in love with Cersei, they could have lived a wonderful life together, but fate had other plans for the Lannister siblings. Their bond and fleeting romance were tragically cut short when they met their demise in King’s Landing.
5. Eddard Stark & Robert Baratheon
A Jovial Friendship That Was Great To Witness In The First Season

- Starts Developing In: Winter Is Coming (Season 1, Episode 1)
From the very beginning, it’s evident that Eddard and Robert share a deep friendship built on mutual trust. When Ned willingly relinquished the Iron Throne and allowed Robert to rule the Seven Kingdoms, this act demonstrated his unwavering loyalty, further strengthening their connection.
As a movie critic, I must confess, the bond between Robert and Ned was subtly woven throughout the screenplay before a heartbreaking hunting mishap claimed Robert’s life. In his final moments, he bestowed authority to rule the Iron Throne upon me – an honor that was soon tainted by Cersei’s cunning machinations. By the conclusion of Season 1, it became painfully clear that Ned’s fate was irrevocably sealed.
4. Arya Stark & Ser Sandor Clegane AKA The Hound
The Duo’s Chemistry Elevated Both Characters

- Starts Developing In: Second Sons (Season 3, Episode 8)
It’s unexpected that a character known for being blunt and aggressive, The Hound, developed affection towards Arya, given they hail from rival factions. However, he ended up compelling Arya to join him on his journey, and their playful exchanges became one of the most enjoyable aspects of the series.
1) In their separation, fans deeply felt the absence of the duo’s connection; however, in the final season, Arya and the Hound reconnected in a touching scene. He urged Arya to flee the city and live on after Daenerys turned ruthless, ultimately giving his life to eliminate his brother permanently.
3. Daenerys Targaryen & Jorah Mormont
Jorah’s Feelings Got In The Way Of Their Friendship

- Starts Developing In: Lord Snow (Season 1, Episode 3)
Among those Daenerys trusted profoundly was Jorah Mormont, one of the fortunate few. Originally a fallen knight, he found himself serving closely with Daenerys. His role initially involved spying on her, but his emotions for Daenerys led him to swear allegiance to his queen.
Sadly, Daenerys discovered that Jorah had betrayed her and chose to exile him from her presence, bringing an unexpected end to their long-standing friendship. This news was painful for Jorah, who at this time harbored strong feelings for Daenerys (the Targaryen) and found it unbearable to imagine life without the woman he adored.
2. Jon Snow & Samwell Tarly
Became Steadfast Brothers As Members Of The Night Watch

- Starts Developing In: Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things (Season 1, Episode 4)
Upon joining the Night’s Watch, Jon is warmly welcomed by numerous individuals who would later prove to be his companions within the brotherhood. Among them is Samwell Tarly, a clever individual who was overlooked by his family and lacks prowess in combat, but compensates for it with his intellectual abilities.
Throughout the show’s various seasons, the bond between Samwell and Jon deepens significantly, culminating in their unwavering brotherhood by the series finale. Their friendship was truly captivating and undeniably one of the most delightful aspects of ‘Game of Thrones’.
1. Tyrion Lannister & Bronn Of The Blackwater
The Most Entertaining Duo In The Series

- Starts Developing In: Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things (Season 1, Episode 4)
From the initial episode onwards, Tyrion’s clever quips endeared him to viewers. Remarkably, a mercenary named Bronn proved capable of matching his sharp intellect, which eventually led to their friendship, characterized by their enjoyment of exchanging barbs with one another.
In this show, characters like Bronn and Tyrion often stole the spotlight whenever they appeared on screen together. Their dialogues became iconic for all good reasons, creating moments that still bring smiles to fans’ faces despite any criticisms leveled at the controversial finale of Game of Thrones.
