Summary
- Baek Yoonho’s beast transformation grants immense power but makes him mediocre on a global scale.
- White Tiger Guild‘s elite members include Jinwoo’s shadow soldier “Iron” who betrays him.
- Solo Leveling’s anime adaptation lacks focus on the s-class hunters and guild factions.
It’s unfortunate that the anime adaptation for “Solo Leveling” hasn’t delved deeply into the s-class hunters and various guild factions, as these elements could add depth to the story. Although they primarily serve as obstacles for Sung Jinwoo, they have the potential to be intriguing, especially with their unique blend of supernatural powers and bureaucracy. Being set in a modern context instead of a typical medieval fantasy setting makes this intersection even more compelling.
One of the strongest guilds portrayed in the series is the White Tiger Guild. While many of its hunters are not extensively explored, it’s significant because it harbors one of Korea’s top hunters and one of the rare humans who serves under Jinwoo’s leadership as a shadow.
Guildmaster Baek Yoonho
One of Korea’s Top S-Class Hunters

At the pinnacle of authority within the White Tiger guild stands its guildmaster, Baek Yoonho. This individual is an exceptional hunter, boasting a unique trait – the capacity to augment his already formidable S-class strength even more by metamorphosing into a white tiger. This shape-shifting talent sets him apart from other hunters, whose abilities typically do not alter their physical appearance. Moreover, Baek’s powerful transformation also endows him with heightened beast senses, enabling him to discern swiftly the true extent of Sung Jinwoo’s power among others.
“What the heck…? All this magical energy is coming from Jinwoo?” -Baek Yoonho
In a sparring session with top-tier hunter Ma Dongwook, Baek demonstrated remarkable skill without fully transforming, even performing admirably in a simulated battle against Japanese S-class warriors. Additionally, his resilience is exceptional, as he remained alert and combative after sustaining heavy blows from the Ant King on Jeju Island.
Indeed, these are the top hunters of South Korea, but there’s not much for us to observe as they engage in their sparring.” – Japanese A-rank hunter Hanaekawa.
Despite possessing immense power through his beast transformation, Baek appears rather ordinary when compared to other hunters globally. Hanekawa found him unimpressive, while Goto Ruiji mentioned that only Cha Hae-In and Chairman Go Gunhee were noteworthy among the Korean hunters present. However, Baek Yoonhoo demonstrated remarkable independence by establishing his own guild, which has risen to become one of the top 5 in South Korea.
The White Tiger Guild’s Other Members
Including Jinwoo’s Shadow Solder “Iron”

In the anime or other adaptations of the story, not all members of the White Tiger Guild receive extensive development. However, during a red gate incident involving Jinwoo, he encounters various individuals from the White Tiger Guild, including Kim Chul (an A-rank tank), Park Heejin (a B-rank mage), Yoon Kijoon (a C-rank tank), and Go Myung-Hwan (a C-rank hunter).
“Sung Jinwoo! You Die!” -Kim Chul screaming while charging at Jinwoo from behind.
In the tough fight at the red gate dungeon, Jinwoo was unexpectedly attacked from behind by Kim Chul when he was focused on the boss. Jinwoo took care of Kim, transforming him into his first shadow soldier for hunters and nicknaming him Iron. Despite detesting Jinwoo in their previous lives, Kim Chul became a devoted shadow to Jinwoo, who considered him one of the less intelligent members within his force, as portrayed by the main character in “Solo Leveling.
“A lumbering giant with no agility.” -Baraka after clashing with Iron.
Previously, Kim Chul held a powerful position within the guild, second only to Baek Yoonho. He had proven his strength by single-handedly overpowering a band of ice bears and even withstanding an attack from Jinwoo that sent him flying. As part of the guild’s top-tier squad, Kim Chul was seen as a dependable leader until disaster struck during the red gate dungeon.
It was clear from the beginning that something like this might occur, as if you had a premonition about Kim Chul’s fate, given he was impaled by Igris.
Solo Leveling can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Amazon.
