Naruto stands as one of the most outstanding shonen anime ever produced, belonging to the esteemed trio known as The Big Three, alongside Bleach and One Piece. Masashi Kishimoto put in tremendous effort in constructing the world and storyline for this remarkable series. In the beginning, the title character is shunned by the Leaf Village due to circumstances beyond his control. The idea of him becoming the Hokage is met with laughter, yet the spiky-haired ninja with the distinctive blond hair defies expectations and grows into one of the most powerful ninjas in existence.

Over the long-lasting journey of Naruto, viewers have been captivated by some of the finest story arcs ever seen in anime. At its best, Naruto delivers thrilling battles, compelling narratives, and character growth that keeps fans hooked if they’re deeply involved with the series. It’s no surprise that certain Naruto arcs are so engaging that viewers find themselves repeatedly watching these plots without feeling tired of them.

5 Chunin Exams

One Of The Greatest Pre-Time-Skip Arcs

  • Episodes 20-67 of Naruto

Following one of the finest opening storylines in any shonen anime yet, viewers were finally introduced to the long-anticipated Chunin Examinations. During these tests, young ninjas aiming to advance sought to prove their worth for higher ranks and more challenging missions. This arc is particularly notable for introducing characters who would later become series regulars, a chilling adversary that sends shivers up and down the spine, and an exciting tournament format that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

In this series, several significant events unfold, like Sakura chopping off her hair for self-reliance and Sasuke receiving Orochimaru’s curse mark. Moreover, Rock Lee’s exceptional battle against Gaara and Naruto’s astonishing win over Neji make this arc a timeless favorite among viewers. The Chunin Exams arc in Naruto is an excellent demonstration of the captivating pre-time skip storylines it boasts.

4 Konoha Crush

Watching Numerous Powerful Ninja Show Off Their Skills Never Gets Old

  • Episodes 68-80 of Naruto

Konoha Crush begins promptly following Orochimaru’s unveiling during the conclusion of the Chunin Exams, as Gaara and his companions desperately attempt to flee while the one possessing Shukaku grapples with a grave wound inflicted by Sasuke. The confrontation between the Third Hokage and Orochimaru stands out in this storyline, with the betrayer disclosing the remains of the first two Hokage who fought Sarutobi. Nevertheless, the emotional zenith of this arc occurs at its end, when Naruto triumphs in his battle against Gaara, demonstrating that determination can conquer loneliness and animosity.

Witnessing the parents of Naruto’s beloved ninja ally step in to help their village during Gaara’s confession of his defeat is an emotionally charged scene that will send shivers up the spines of every Naruto fan. Even as the series expanded significantly after this arc, fans seeking a time when Naruto could move them with its simplicity and ingenuity will appreciate every aspect of Konoha Crush.

3 Sasuke Recovery Mission

The Turning Point In The Series Right Before The Time-Skip

  • Episodes 107-135 of Naruto

Following Naruto’s impressive display against Gaara and the harsh encounter with his brother during their confrontation, Sasuke finds himself feeling outmatched by his adversary. A brief skirmish on the hospital rooftop only reinforces his vulnerability, prompting him to resolve to depart from the village and seek tutelage under Orochimaru in order to boost his power. He allows himself to be captured by the Sound Five, which later results in a mission involving the much-loved shinobi, aimed at rescuing him.

Since major storylines in Naruto tend to focus more on the main characters, it’s delightful to witness secondary characters like Kiba, Neji, and Shino take center stage for a brief moment, as this opportunity is unlikely to reoccur soon. Needless to say, discussing this arc wouldn’t be complete without touching upon Naruto and Sasuke’s climactic battle. This confrontation is nothing short of spectacular, culminating in a poignant ending where the hero suffers defeat, while his friend achieves his objective of severing ties and transforming into an outcast.

2 Akatsuki Suppression Mission

Naruto And Shikamaru Get Their Time To Shine

  • Episodes 72-88 of Naruto Shippuden

From the initial episodes of Naruto: Shippuden, it’s evident that the Akatsuki is a formidable band of antagonists, requiring everyone in the shinobi community to acknowledge their dangerous presence. The Kazekage Rescue Mission offered a tangible glimpse of their menace, but many believe the Akatsuki Suppression Mission stands out as more compelling due to its gripping pace, intense emotional moments, and rich character progression. Following Asuma’s death at Hidan’s hands, Shikamaru channels his grief into determination, vowing to avenge his mentor.

At the same time, Naruto discovers more about chakra’s elemental characteristics and creates a jutsu to enhance the Rasengan into a superior, distinctive version. This leads to an amazing fight with Hidan and Kakuzu. Shikamaru ultimately buries Hidan for good, while Kakuzu meets his end when Naruto introduces the powerful Rasenshuriken for the first time.

1 Pain’s Assault

Watching Naruto Finally Be Acknowledged By The Village Never Ceases To Be Amazing

  • Episodes 152-175 of Naruto Shippuden

Generally speaking, many fans believe that the series “Naruto” reached its pinnacle following the emergence of Pain’s attack, as the protagonist put in immense effort to avenge his cherished mentor, Jiraiya. The demise of Jiraiya is a particularly poignant scene in “Naruto”, and the devastation wrought by Pain upon Konoha village leaves both Naruto and viewers with a heavy heart. After mastering Sage Mode, Naruto rushes to defend Konoha, demonstrating his increased strength by successively defeating the Six Paths of Pain.

In contrast, Naruto’s journey isn’t without its challenges. Pain captures him, just as Hinata falls before his eyes, leading Naruto to believe she is dead. Overwhelmed, he prepares to let the Kyuubi consume him, but a meeting with his father rekindles his determination. Regaining control, Naruto unleashes a powerful Rasengan to defeat Pain’s final Path. A memorable speech from Naruto ensues, and Nagato repents by reviving everyone who perished, sacrificing himself in the process. The arc concludes with the village celebrating Naruto, a moment that remains touching on repeated viewings, despite some viewers finding the intense visuals of Naruto’s battle against Pain to be somewhat over-the-top.
