As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for Mega Man X-inspired games, I can confidently say that 30XX has been a game changer in my gaming library. Last year, it burst into my life like a futuristic robot cat out of a mech suit, and since then, it’s been an unstoppable force of fun and challenge.

In the past year, the game 30XX, which reminds me of Mega Man X and has a Roguelike structure, became a favorite of mine. Now, more than a year since its release, it’s thriving even more, offering fresh content to keep things exciting. This new content has been available for free, but as version 1.3 approaches, there’s also a paid new character in sight. I’ve had the opportunity to play numerous runs with the newly added hero Dally from 30XX, and I can assure you that her inclusion in this futuristic Roguelike is definitely beneficial.

Devoted enthusiasts of the game 30XX may well recognize Dally, especially in her peaceful form outside combat. This cute robot kitty is often found in your hub HQ between missions, and acquiring a particular item from the shop within the hub will also provide you with a variety of power-ups at the start of each mission. However, it seems that Dally isn’t just a helpful NPC character; she has opted to put on the Catastrophe Armor mech suit and embark on her own robot-busting journey! She might even become my favorite character to control in the game.

Rather than a sluggishly charging blaster or beam sword, this fresh kitty cat mech employs a rapid-fire blaster to tackle adversaries. In contrast to other characters, Dally empowers her formidable super moves by charging them with Power instead of NRG. This change allows you to continuously use these abilities by vanquishing enemies instead of scavenging for NRG pickups scattered across the levels, making it an ideal fit for players who prefer a more aggressive playstyle.

In Dally’s game, defeating bosses rewards a variety of unique super abilities, such as massive beams and summoning crystals that fire from above. Enhancing these abilities is an exciting process with Dally, as she gathers Bell upgrades that can blend with any one of your attacks to boost their power. There’s a vast array of combinations to test out, and discovering a favorite combination is truly thrilling.

With the debut of Dally as a fresh hero in version 1.3 of the game, there’s plenty to look forward to, regardless of whether you’re spending money or not. The update includes reworked boss battles featuring randomized versions, new eternal challenges for seasoned players offering increased difficulty, and a free, endearing character named Dolto. It might be worth revisiting 30XX even if you weren’t planning on purchasing Dally, but be warned, the game’s charm might persuade you to open your wallet!

30XX continues to impress as an exceptional Mega Man-inspired roguelike game even after a year, and the introduction of character Dally ensures it remains permanently installed on my system. With fresh content added since its release, there’s no better moment than now to dive into 30XX. Having Dally by your side will make short work of troublesome robots, while the fun factor remains consistently high throughout.

30XX is out now on PC and consoles.
