As a dedicated Animal Crossing fan with over two decades of experience, I have spent countless hours exploring the charming worlds created by Nintendo. From the quaint village life of Wild World to the idyllic island paradise of New Horizons, each game has offered unique experiences that have left me longing for more.
The “Animal Crossing” series, known for its relaxing life simulation games, continues to be cherished by fans. However, despite its success, including the massive popularity boost from “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” in 2020, there’s a growing demand for more adventure, specifically underwater. Although Nintendo hasn’t confirmed plans for this addition yet, the prospect of diving into a new aquatic experience is certainly intriguing.
Unfortunately, there’s been no confirmed news about a new installment in the popular “Animal Crossing” series. Fans can only guess what’s next due to the game’s massive popularity. However, it’s unlikely Nintendo would abandon such a successful franchise. There are whispers of a new game potentially launching alongside Nintendo’s rumored next console, tentatively named Switch 2. With potential plans for a new title, Nintendo aims to take the series to even greater heights.
The Ocean Could Play A Critical Role In The Next Animal Crossing Title
Animal Crossing Should Allow Players To Explore New Depths
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, where players started on a tropical island encompassed by the sea, most of the underutilized aquatic landscape’s possibilities remained unexplored. Although there was speculation about continuous updates, Version 2.0 of New Horizons, promoted as the last significant content expansion in late 2021, seems to indicate that this path is not probable. Following its release, only small patches were implemented until late 2022, after which no further patches or adjustments were documented.
It’s intriguing that although diving and the ocean were significant aspects of both “New Horizons” and “New Leaf,” players couldn’t fully experience being submerged in its vastness. Players could only briefly dive underwater to gather deep-sea creatures, with a restricted perspective at the surface. Activities like fishing and boat rides with Kapp’n provided some nautical entertainment, but uncovering the ocean’s hidden wonders has remained elusive since “New Leaf” came out in 2012. With over two decades having passed since the initial game was launched, it could be an opportune moment for “Animal Crossing” to delve deeper.
Discovering the ocean’s hidden wonders has been elusively difficult since New Leaf was introduced in 2012.
Animal Crossing Could Take a Page Out of Subnautica’s Book
In a potential future version of “Animal Crossing,” imaginatively designed underwater rooms filled with vibrant coral and intriguing tropical fish join forces with the captivating in-game aquarium teeming with various marine species, providing players with an enticing peek into the possible underwater world of this cherished game. Furthermore, these alluring ideas hint that underwater exploration would harmoniously enhance the game’s current aesthetic charm. Similarly, as players delve into the enigma of new islands to uncover hidden villagers, the ocean could open up a novel avenue for encountering aquatic villagers.
Nintendo could benefit from adding underwater building and exploration features similar to games like Subnautica and Dave the Diver. This would offer players the opportunity to create a thriving community both on land and underwater, providing numerous customization possibilities. Players would enjoy the experience of shaping an underwater realm to their preferences while discovering new attractions such as colorful coral reefs, exotic marine life, hidden treasures, and sunken ships.
In the spirit of beloved open-sea adventures, integrating oxygen tanks and air gauges might significantly expand a player’s underwater discoveries in Animal Crossing. Unlike games where running out of air results in game over, this tranquil title prioritizes relaxation. Consequently, when a character exhausts their oxygen supply, they could simply faint and automatically resurface at the entrance of their home, ensuring no harm is done. This mechanism, which currently comes into play after encounters with aggressive insects like scorpions, tarantulas, and wasps, can seamlessly be incorporated for underwater exploration.
