The original Power Rangers team is returning in a new comic book in 2026, more than 30 years after first appearing on screen. Since 1993, when it came to America as a version of the Japanese show Super Sentai, Power Rangers has become a huge part of pop culture and a very popular toy line. The very first series, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, was a defining show for a generation and continues to bring back fond memories of the 1990s.
Despite the Power Rangers franchise lasting over 20 seasons, the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team is still the most memorable group of teen heroes for many viewers. Characters from that first season have reappeared in later Power Rangers shows, and its famous theme song – with the line “Go Go Power Rangers” – has been updated and used in several seasons throughout the 2010s. The franchise has also been made into three movies, and two of those films were based on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
It’ll Be Morphin’ Time for the Original Team With New Power Rangers Comic in 2026
According to ComicBook, the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team is reuniting in a new comic book coming out in May. Published by BOOM! Studios and coinciding with Penguin Random House’s first Comics Giveaway Day, Power Rangers #0 will feature several stories from different eras of the Power Rangers franchise. One of these stories will specifically focus on the six original Power Rangers stars from the 1990s.
The Power Rangers – Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, and Kimberly – are all grown up in this new comic book series. Unlike the original TV show, they’re no longer teenagers, but adults who come back together at the Command Center after many years apart. The comic also teases the return of Tommy, the Green Power Ranger, asking fans where he’s been.
The new comic book will bring back the original Power Rangers team, which will be thrilling for fans who have followed the series for years. Though some of the original actors appeared in the 2022 Netflix special, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always, a comic book reunion offers a chance to see the full team together again. This is especially meaningful for honoring characters like Trini, whose actress, Thuy Trang, sadly passed away in 2001.
The new comic, Power Rangers #0, isn’t just relying on fans’ memories. By showing the Rangers as adults, the story feels like a natural next chapter, moving beyond the typical ‘villain of the week’ format. This allows for a more mature storyline, unlike the TV show which always aimed for a younger audience. The story also promises more emotional depth, particularly with the possible absence of Tommy, and will likely address the passing of actor Jason David Frank in a meaningful way, setting it apart from the franchise’s often lighthearted tone.
