The Original Rayman is Making a Comeback

The classic 1995 platformer Rayman is returning to modern consoles with added content! Originally released over 30 years ago by Ubisoft, the game quickly became popular thanks to its unique atmosphere, music, and visuals. It sold 400,000 copies in Europe within just four months of launch, and has now sold over 3 million copies worldwide. This success launched an entire Rayman franchise, which includes a total of 45 games across various platforms – 5 main titles and numerous spin-offs.

It’s been a while since the last major Rayman game, Rayman Legends, came out in 2013, and fans have been playing spin-offs in the meantime. But interest in the Rayman series has actually grown, especially with the original game nearing its 30th anniversary. Rumors of remakes from Ubisoft and hints on social media from the game’s creators have given platformer fans hope for a new installment. While details are still under wraps, it’s clear the beloved series isn’t being forgotten.

The Original Rayman Game Officially Returns

At February’s Sony State of Play, Ubisoft announced the return of the original Rayman to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition will feature five different versions of the first game – originally released on PlayStation, Atari Jaguar, MS-DOS, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Color. Ubisoft calls it “the definitive edition” of the classic platformer, and it will be available digitally on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC for $19.99 starting February 13th. A physical version will also be released in select regions this June.

This special anniversary edition offers fans a deeper look into the history of the Rayman series and helps them enjoy the original game with new features. Players can explore an early SNES prototype, use options like rewind, and enable accessibility features such as invincibility and unlimited lives. It also includes 120 extra levels from Rayman’s New Levels, Rayman 60 Levels, and Rayman by His Fans. Plus, enjoy a remastered soundtrack by Christophe Héral and a nearly hour-long interactive documentary with interviews from the original creators, concept art, and design documents.
