In The Outer Worlds 2, players will find a world packed with interesting gadgets and engaging ways to explore the sci-fi RPG environment Obsidian Entertainment has created. One exciting new feature, unlocked by completing a specific quest, is the ability to double jump.

While playing through the ‘Perilous Journey To The Grove’ quest, you’ll encounter two new characters stranded on top of the large farming harvester where Jackson tragically fell.

It’s sad about Jackson, but we can still make something positive come from his passing. Here’s a guide on how to finish ‘A Final Death For Gravity’ in The Outer Wilds 2, and unlock a helpful new ability while you’re at it.

How To Complete A Final Death For Gravity

As we mentioned before, you’ll need to make significant progress in the “Perilous Journey To The Grove” quest before you can start “A Final Death For Gravity.” If you haven’t finished “Perilous Journey To The Grove” yet, we have a guide to help you with that too.

Once you’ve spoken with the people stuck on top of the harvester and offered to help them, remember to grab the P.A.L.E. boots from Jackson’s body. These boots will automatically equip and let you double jump, making it much easier to reach them.

While jumping, press the jump button again for a little extra height, letting you reach farther distances. Don’t worry about the loud noise your boots make when you do this – it’s normal!

To defeat Othaham and his companion, you need to collect the Drive Overloader. It’s located on a high balcony near the harvester on the mountainside. Your P.A.L.E. boots will help you reach it, but you’ll need to be precise with your jumps and movements.

Begin on the platform you see in the image. Then, jump to the rooftop ahead, using a double jump to make it across the space between them.

Okay, so I’ve figured out the best way to get across these gaps! If there’s a runway, I’m sprinting as fast as I can before I jump. Then, I save my double jump for when I’m about halfway across. I’m going to use this method for the rest of this quest, it seems to work perfectly!

Now, simply use the double jump to clear each gap as you come to it. The images above show exactly where each gap is located. Don’t worry if some seem a little far – you can make those jumps! Occasionally, your character will need to grab a ledge to pull themselves up, but the game handles that automatically.

Before you reach the Drive Overloader, you’ll see red, vine-like plants growing on the mountain. With a Medical skill of 3, you can gather these to upgrade your Medical Inhaler. Alternatively, if your Science! skill is 3 or higher, you can use them as Biomass ammunition.

Okay, so I grabbed the Drive Overloader, and now my map is showing me where to go next – it’s up on top of that huge harvester where those two guys are stuck! If you look right behind where the Drive Overloader was sitting, you’ll see some scaffolding. You can climb that, and just keep going across each of the platforms – it’s a bit of a climb, but you can make it!

This spot can be tricky, and a fall means instant death. But don’t worry too much – you’ll quickly respawn and won’t lose much of your progress.

Eventually, you’ll come to the last obstacle, which will lead you to the people who are stuck.

Go inside and plug the Drive Overloader into the correct slot on the Harvester’s control panel. Then, lower the harvester to the ground. After that, talk to Othaham to finish the quest.

Quest Rewards

If you successfully bring Othaham and his partner back to the ground safely, you will receive these rewards:

  • 542 XP
  • 350 Bit Cartridges (Currency)
  • Monocular Target-Finder Helmet

This helmet is the standout piece. Wearing it adds 10% extra damage to an enemy’s vulnerable areas, which makes a noticeable difference in battle.

The game also includes the Range Scanner, a feature that increases damage to an enemy’s weak points when you’re at a long distance. Specifically, you’ll deal 30% more damage to weakspots if you’re further than 100 meters away.
