The Planet Crafter: Where to Find Quartz on Planet Humble

The Planet Crafter: Where to Find Quartz on Planet Humble

As an experienced gamer who has spent countless hours mining resources and terraforming planets, I must say that Planet Humble in The Planet Crafter DLC is a breath of fresh air. While it may be smaller than the base planet, its hidden treasures make up for it tenfold.

In comparison to the starting planet in The Planet Crafter, Planet Humble presents some distinct characteristics. For instance, it’s noticeably smaller, and there’s an expansive subterranean region that remains inaccessible until later stages of the game.

On Planet Humble, you’ll discover resources similar to those found on the home planet, including uncommon types of quartz such as solar, quasar, and magnetar. Although these quartzes aren’t available at the beginning of the The Planet Crafter DLC, it’s interesting to note that they can be found if you look closely, as they’re cleverly concealed.

How to Get Cosmic Quartz

Upon venturing into the world of Planet Humble, you might stumble upon peculiar geological structures, like the one depicted in the picture above. Despite their otherworldly appearance, these formations are not associated with extraterrestrial civilizations of old nor any attempts at human modification of the planet’s landscape.

On the contrary, what you see here are deposits of unique cosmic quartz, a type of ore found only on Planet Humble. Unlike other newly discovered ores that you can mine right away, cosmic quartz remains unyielding at this time because the entire rock formation shares the same brown hue, offering no immediate use for it.

Rather than immediately proceeding, it’s essential to watch as the Terraformation Index progresses into the GTi range. Somewhere near the Insects or Breathable Atmosphere phase, the stone encasing the egg-shaped rock at the peak will erode, uncovering the radiant cosmic quartz hidden beneath. Once this occurs, you can mine the cosmic quartz in a manner similar to any other ore.

How to Use Cosmic Quartz

Similarly to how Planet Humble’s common ores are processed, you can process cosmic quartz by inserting it into an Ore Crusher. After some time, it will grind the ore, yielding useful minerals. A clue about this procedure is provided on the T3 Ore Crusher – the right panel of the input locker displays hints for the usual three ores, while the left panel indicates a cosmic quartz ore and the five special quartzes that may appear during regular gameplay.

However, there are a couple of important points to remember about this process.

  • Cosmic quartz doesn’t just produce quartz. While it would be convenient for cosmic quartz to give you one of each special quartz, it can also give you rare ores like zeolite and osmium, or it can give you two of the same type of quartz.
  • Cosmic quartz works in every type of ore crusher. The hint only appears on the T3 model, but any ore crusher will destroy this quartz. Consider this a warning to store your cosmic quartz carefully, because you should have unlocked the T3 model long before cosmic quartz becomes available.

Planet Humble Procedural Wrecks

In the spirit of the original game, I hit 250 GTi, unlocking the Portal Generator – just like before, it’s all about finding shipwrecks on distant parts of our planet. The price tag remains the same, but the rewards are priceless! These procedural wrecks serve as a treasure trove for resources that would usually be in short supply, such as plant seeds and various types of quartz, making them an endless source of useful items.

Cosmic quartz is scarcely found and no location on a map allows its extraction with an ore collector. However, it’s valuable for crafting recipes that can be unlocked before reaching 250 GTi. It would be wise to depend on the Portal Generator to replenish your quartz stock once you manage to construct one.
