As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of console price hikes and upgrades. The announcement of the PS5 Pro has me scratching my head more than ever. At $699.99/£699.99, it’s a steep investment for a console that promises a 45% more powerful GPU and fancy ray tracing.
On Tuesday, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, and in doing so, they also disclosed that its cost would be $200 higher compared to the standard PlayStation 5 model.
If you want to buy a PS5 Pro, it’s going to cost you $699.99/£699.99. The original base PS5 costs $499.99/£479.99, and that includes a disc drive for the system. The digital-only base PS5 retails for just $449.99/£389.99
If you’re considering a disc drive for physical games, be prepared to add an additional $80/£99.99 for the detachable disc drive. This will bring the cost of a PS5 Pro close to or even exceeding $800 and £800 respectively.
So, in some cases it’ll cost $200/£200 more whereas others could be looking at $350/£350 more.
For your investment in the high-end console, you’ll receive the PS5 Pro system, a DualSense controller, and a four-year-old game Astro’s Playroom. The console packs a GPU that’s 45% more potent, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology for superior upscaling, and advanced ray tracing capabilities.
