The PWHL X NHL 25 Collaboration Explained

As a long-time enthusiast of hockey and women’s sports, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the latest update to NHL 25 that features the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). Having followed the journey of this young association since its inception last year, it’s heartening to see them gaining recognition and support from a major player like EA Sports.

An upgrade for the game NHL 25 now features an extended roster that includes players from the Professional Women’s Hockey League. This partnership between NHL 25 and the PWHL is exciting news for the budding association, marking progress in promoting women’s participation within the game series.

The PWHL, established just a year ago, is a relatively new association that sprang from an initiative aimed at creating more secure and financially rewarding careers for female ice hockey players. Compared to its predecessors, the PWHL boasts greater operational resources and collective strength among its members. The league’s inclusion in EA Sports’ NHL 25 has played a significant role in boosting its visibility, and Game Rant recently had the opportunity to interview Marie-Philip Poulin, hockey star and captain of Montreal Victoire team, for some intriguing details.

Explaining The PWHL’s New Collaboration With NHL 25

Playing The PWHL

Since the December 5 update enlarged NHL 25 with fresh content, you can now play against six teams from the PWHL (Montreal Victoire, Boston Fleet, Toronto Sceptres, Minnesota Frost, New York Sirens, and Ottawa Charge) in various game modes. Poulin explained some aspects of the development process that gave each player a lifelike presence within the game.

The scanning was only a piece of it, as there’s much more involved. I can assure you that those who handled it were diligent in ensuring that everything was tailored to each player’s needs. There’s a lot to consider, but with the PWHL now part of the picture, we feel like we’re truly in the game. To be quite honest, it’s exciting knowing that our names and faces are out there, and you can choose one of us to join your team.

Beyond simply listing players, the PWHL roster has been created using a method similar to what the NHL series has adopted recently. The innovative SAPIEN skeleton technology, which constructs player skeletons anew, ensures that player data moves smoothly once it’s mapped out. This technology not only enhances new animations constructed with it but also updates existing ones.

The Road To PWHL In NHL 25

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be stepping into the shoes of PWHL players across Play Now, Online Versus, Shootout, and Season modes! This is quite a leap for the NHL series, as the women’s game was only acknowledged in NHL 22. Being part of NHL 25 has not only expanded the reach of the series but also deepened my personal connection with it.

Playing NHL 25 speaks volumes about their values. As a gamer, I feel validated and supported, which is essential when discussing women’s sports. EA Sports and NHL 25 are all about embracing and believing in us, just as they have been since 2021 with the IIHF. It’s fantastic to be included!

With a professional league established now, and recognizing our place within the NHL 25 – as this is our league for women’s professional hockey – I believe it underscores the importance of representation. It demonstrates that we belong here, and that our presence in the game serves a purpose. This, to me, speaks volumes about EA Sports and what an honor it is to be part of NHL 25.

In the newest addition to the NHL series, it’s not just about adding players; you can also find PWHL uniforms, symbolizing the six teams, within World of Chel.
