In the year 2010, when cable TV was at its peak, Chris Romano and Eric Falconer introduced a comedic series centered around college football players with a slapstick and risqué style on Spike TV. The show titled Blue Mountain State ran for three seasons before it concluded, joining the vast expanse of cable shows that failed to resonate deeply with viewers, thereby not gaining enough popularity to continue producing more episodes.
It wasn’t until Blue Mountain State started appearing on streaming services such as Netflix that it gained a fresh and substantial fanbase fascinated by the absurd events in the series. Now, with one of its original actors leading the way and backed by a new streaming service, the team from Blue Mountain State is almost ready for a fourth season, which comes a decade after the final episode of the original show.
Alan Ritchson and Amazon to Green Light a Blue Mountain State Reboot
Previously, Alan Ritchson portrayed the dim-witted yet unwaveringly loyal captain of the Blue Mountain State football team, Kevin “Thad” Castle, in a different role compared to his portrayal of tough guy characters on Reacher.
Ritchson’s acting stood out significantly to numerous enthusiasts, as he humorously portrayed the common dumb jock stereotype linked with college football culture, a trope frequently seen in popular media. Before making a name for himself as an action hero in film series like Fast and Furious and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thad Castle served as one of Ritchson’s early major acting opportunities.

It’s quite fitting that Ritchson is paying tribute to one of the shows that contributed significantly to his current fame. His association with a powerhouse streaming studio like Amazon MGM Studios adds to this appropriateness, especially considering how successful Ritchson’s Jack Reacher character has been on Amazon, the platform where the Reacher TV series resides.
As reported by Deadline, Ritchson has given the green light to the project that’s nearing completion in its development phase. Ritchson described it as “flawless.” However, the challenge lies in coordinating schedules, as his calendar has become considerably fuller since the early days of Blue Mountain State.
The Blue Mountain State Reunion Includes More than Ritchson
To maintain the enchantment of the initial series, it is said that Ritchson and Amazon are planning to reintroduce previous main actors Brooks and Romano. They portrayed Alex Moran and Sampson “Sammy” Cacciatore respectively during the first three seasons. It’ll be fascinating to observe how their relationships unfold now, given the ongoing power struggles between Moran and Castle in the current final third season.

It appears that there’s no script or shooting plan announced for Blue Mountain State’s comeback just yet. However, with major studio support, returning cast members, and the approval of the show’s most famous figure, all indications lean towards a victorious, though undeniably nostalgic, resurrection for the Mountain Goats.
