The Run: Got Next Is A Spiritual Successor To NBA Street

As a longtime gamer with a deep affection for sports titles, especially basketball games, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about The Run: Got Next from Play by Play Studios. Having grown up playing NBA Street and its sequels during the early-to-mid 2000s, I have fond memories of those games that still resonate with me today.

At Play by Play Studios, the team behind the latest innovation unveils their fresh basketball The Run: Got Next. This exciting new project hails from a studio brimming with experienced professionals, including ex-EA team members such as Scott Probst, former general manager, and Mike Young, previous creative director of Madden, among others.

I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming game is being described as a worthy follow-up to the beloved NBA Street series from the early-to-mid 2000s.

A large number of us who worked on NBA Street harbored a desire to resurrect the game. However, reviving a project may be tough for a company already investing heavily in a major title like Madden or NBA Live. With all their resources focused on these flagship games, it can be a daunting prospect to consider developing a secondary game. (Young speaking to IGN)

Meet “The Run: Got Next,” a vibrant and character-rich 3vs3 basketball experience that honors the swagger, flair, and techniques inherent in urban hoops culture. Gather your team and take on some of the world’s most iconic street courts – how far can you push it during this thrilling run?

On the studio’s website, Probst pens a warm greeting where he expresses the team’s mission: Reintroducing enjoyment into sports video games, an experience now seemingly lost.

Over the past few years, the gaming industry has expanded dramatically, and unfortunately, the business aspect often overshadows the enjoyment of the game itself. That’s disappointing to say.

In various sports games I’ve played today, I’ve encountered a common issue: to excel, I believe I need to invest countless hours, adding to the financial burden of an initial $70 purchase, and often embark on irrelevant quests that seem unrelated to the enjoyment of the game or the sport itself.

The Run: Got Next launches in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
