The Simpsons Fans Are Still Mourning Tapped Out’s Demise

Man, it’s been almost a year since EA shut down The Simpsons: Tapped Out, and I’m still a little bummed. It was this city-building game where you got to create your own Springfield, using all the classic locations and characters from the show. I started playing way back in 2012 when it first came out. It definitely had its issues – those in-app purchases could get annoying – but it was still super addictive, and a lot of us played it every single day for over ten years. It’s a shame they took it down.

After years of dedicated play, fans were understandably upset when The Simpsons: Tapped Out shut down. EA had announced the game’s closure for January 2025, and they followed through, ending server support and effectively ending the game. While fans tried to save it with petitions and requests, EA didn’t change its mind.

It’s been almost a year since The Simpsons: Tapped Out was shut down, and many fans are still upset about it. The game’s online community remains active with people sharing their sadness and even refusing to uninstall the app. While some players are hoping EA will bring the game back, it’s unlikely – EA rarely revives games once they’ve been officially discontinued.

Simpsons Fans Are Still Sad About Tapped Out’s Demise

Dedicated fans have brought Simpsons: Tapped Out back to life using their own servers, and some were even able to save their previous game progress after EA stopped supporting it. While these fan-run servers could be shut down at any time, they offer a way for players to revisit or start a new Springfield on their mobile devices. Just be aware that the game’s future depends on these volunteers.

The strong reaction to the closure of The Simpsons: Tapped Out proves that many people still want to play Simpsons video games. While there haven’t been any announcements of a new game, fans are hoping for a remastered version of Simpsons: Hit & Run or a revival of the 2007 Simpsons game. It’s uncertain if this will happen, but with a new Simpsons movie in development, the possibility seems more likely than ever.
