The Sims 4: All Features Added with the Base Game Update (23/07)

As a long-time Sims player with countless hours invested in building dream homes and crafting engaging stories for my virtual characters, I am thrilled to see these recent updates to The Sims 4. The ability to customize architectural details of mega double doors adds an extra layer of creativity to my builds that was previously missing.

Excited members of The Sims 4 community are looking forward to the release of the Lovestruck Expansion Pack. However, on July 23, 2024, an important update for the base game was unveiled instead. This update brings significant improvements and new elements to the core game, ensuring that all players can enjoy fresh content and innovative features, even if they don’t buy the upcoming expansion.

In this update, you’ll find some exciting additions: new CAS items, construction tools, and improvements for live mode, in addition to character customization enhancements and bug fixes. These features aim to elevate your gaming experience and deepen your engagement with your Sims’ worlds.

Create-A-Sim Updates

In its newest release, The Sims 4‘s Create-A-Sim (CAS) feature receives major improvements. Players can now explore an expanded selection of items, preferences, and relationship statuses. These enhancements expand the customization possibilities within CAS, allowing users to more intricately shape their Sims’ looks and personas. The following additions are included:

Romantic Boundaries

The Sims 4: All Features Added with the Base Game Update (23/07)

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that the Identity panel in the game has gotten an upgrade! Now, under the Gender and Sexual Orientation tabs, I can customize how my Sims respond to different types of romantic encounters. For instance, I can set my Sim to get jealous over flirtatious comments or physical affection like kissing and Woohoo. Plus, there are new adjustments for the intensity of their jealousy. This is a game-changer for me as a player who prefers full autonomy, as it helps maintain the integrity of my Sim’s relationships by preventing unwanted advances from other Sims. Additionally, a recent bug fix ensures that Sims in relationships are no longer disturbed by autonomous flirtations, allowing for more control over their romantic lives.

Gender-Neutral Relationships

As a dedicated fan of The Sims game, I’m thrilled about the recent update that brings more inclusivity and gender-neutral terminology to romantic relationships. Now, instead of using terms like “husband” and “wife,” we can refer to them as “spouses.” Similarly, “fiancé” and “fiancée” have been replaced with “engaged partners.” And instead of “boyfriend” or “girlfriend,” the new term is “partners.” Moreover, I love the convenience of starting a new game where my Sims are already defined as partners in the relationships panel. This update eliminates the need for me to establish these relationships during live mode, making the gaming experience even more enjoyable and streamlined!

Apply to All Outfits Button

An frequently demanded enhancement, the “Apply to All Outfits” shortcut, is now accessible. With this function, players can apply hairstyles, makeup, accessories, or clothing pieces uniformly to all outfit types. This feature proves advantageous for those who aim for a consistent appearance across various outfits, reducing the need for repeating the same styling process.

Eyelashes Category

As a gamer, I’m thrilled about the latest update in Create-A-Sim (CAS). Now, eyelashes have got their own distinct category under makeup. This means I can pick out my preferred lashes separately from eye shapes. Two fresh eyelash styles have been added to this section as well! This update is a game-changer for me, as I frequently use custom content. With eyelashes having their own category, there’s no more clashing between makeup or skin detail options. Yay for more flexibility in creating my sims!

New Nail Designs

Newly introduced nail designs, featuring French tips and coffin shapes, have enriched the game. Additionally, an expanded range of color choices is now available, including numerous nude shades to suit the Sims’ diverse skin tones. Furthermore, several bug issues concerning this feature have been addressed, such as eliminating glove clipping on nails and enabling customization for toddler toenails.

New Hairs

As a long-time fan of The Sims game, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the latest update. With every new release, I look forward to seeing what fresh and innovative additions the creators have in store for us. And this time, they’ve truly outdone themselves!

Build-Buy Mode Update: Curved Pools

The Sims 4: All Features Added with the Base Game Update (23/07)

The latest update has primarily spotlighted advancements in Create-A-Sim (CAS) and Live mode. However, Build mode hasn’t been left behind with several noteworthy new features and enhancements, even if they’re not as prominent.

Curved Pools

An intriguing new function is introducing rounded pools to the design. With this capability, players can now create more distinctive and visually appealing pool shapes by combining curved and angular corners. This enhancement expands creative possibilities, enabling the building of pools that harmoniously complement a Sim’s house architecture and surrounding landscape.

An innovative pool lamp is now available, offering an alternative lighting solution for pools besides the popular curved designs. This new light not only shines beautifully on the pool but also complements the curved walls, creating a stunning effect, particularly when the sun goes down.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Several important bug fixes and improvements have been made to the Build-Buy mode including:

  1. Stair Railings: A bug causing stair railings to disappear when a single tile is placed near them has been fixed, ensuring that staircases maintain their intended appearance.
  2. Cellar Stair Trim: The issue where cellar stair trim extended into the basement after the basement was removed has been resolved, preventing unwanted visual glitches.
  3. Large Curved Walls: Players can now add large curved walls on large curved platforms, expanding the architectural possibilities in their builds.
  4. Mega Double Door Swatches: The update has added new swatches for mega double doors, including options with transparent glass, providing more customization options for doors.

Live Mode Updates

In Create-A-Sim (CAS) mode, The Sims 4’s updates were noteworthy. Likewise, Live Mode has undergone substantial enhancements, most notably in the areas of relationship management and social interplay.

Hiding Relationships

The Sims 4: All Features Added with the Base Game Update (23/07)

Players now have the option to conceal Sims from the Relationship Panel to declutter the view. This functionality is handy for managing the panel effectively by excluding Sims who don’t significantly contribute to the household’s narrative, like casual acquaintances encountered just once. To hide a Sim, simply select them and pick “Hide Relationship” from the Relationship Panel, allowing for a more focused display of essential relationships.

Relationship Interactions

An additional option has been added to the interacts menu, allowing for simpler access to particular social functions like “Request to Move In Together” or “Become Very Best Friends.” This enhancement streamlines the process of locating and choosing essential relationship options, resulting in a more cohesive and user-friendly interface.

Neighborhood Stories

The Sims 4: All Features Added with the Base Game Update (23/07)

As someone who has spent countless hours building and nurturing relationships in virtual neighborhoods, I couldn’t be more excited about the latest update to the Neighborhood Stories feature. These new additions, Friendship Changes and Romance Changes, bring a whole new level of depth and engagement to the game.

Conversation Panel Update

The Sims 4: All Features Added with the Base Game Update (23/07)

The Conversation Panel has been upgraded to give a more extensive view of how Sims engage with one another. It now reveals not just their present mood and connection status, but also Sentiments – powerful indicators of the depth of Sims’ emotions towards each other. This improvement adds nuance to the conversational setting, enabling players to grasp and control their Sims’ social intricacies more effectively.

Live Mode Bug Fixes

The Sims 4 now offers improved realism and more effective management of relationship dynamics through various important bug corrections, such as:

  • No Unsolicited Flirtation: Sims in a committed relationship will no longer receive unwanted autonomous flirtations from other Sims, unless they have the Noncommittal Trait.
  • Orientation-Specific Interactions: Enchanting and Flirty interactions are now only available for Sims who are compatible with the active Sim’s sexual orientation. This ensures that romantic advances align with each Sim’s preferences.
  • Married Sims’ Wants: Married Sims will no longer autonomously express a Want to flirt with others outside their marriage, supporting more faithful relationships.
  • Jealousy Adjustment: The update corrects an issue where engaged Sims were incorrectly receiving jealousy buffs meant for spouses. Jealousy responses are now more accurate and nuanced. Additionally Teen Sims no longer feel jealous over former teen romantic partners who have aged into Young Adults, avoiding awkward scenarios.
  • Date Interactions: Sims will be interrupted less by third sims during dates, allowing players to contribute to the date even easily. Additionally, now both the Host and other Sim on a date can contribute to the goals instead of just the Host Sim. Furthermore, Sims can now ask others on dates without a pre-existing romantic relationship, though acceptance is still based on relationship dynamics. When a Sim is rejected for a date, the reason will show as a notification.
  • Event Planning: Fixes bugs related to certain Sims not counting as guests, or Hire role, among other fixes.

Along with addressing bugs in the main game, EA has made improvements to various expansion and game packs. Notably, significant changes were implemented in “For Rrent,” “Horse Ranch,” “High School Years,” “Growing Together,” “My Wedding Stories,” and “Dine Out.” For a detailed rundown of all the updates and corrections, check out EA’s official update website.
