The Sims 4 Could Set the World on Fire With an Unusual Take on Future DLC

As a long-time Sims enthusiast with over a decade of virtual life under my belt, I find myself yearning for something more from The Sims 4 DLC. Don’t get me wrong, I love exploring new locales and careers, but it’s time to delve deeper into the themes we’ve already touched upon.

Just as with every previous version of “Sims” games, “The Sims 4,” which was released in 2014, has been accompanied by a variety of DLC packs. These have included the standard expansion and stuff packs, but Maxis has gone even further with Game Packs and Kits. This diverse range of content has contributed significantly to the immense success of “The Sims 4” as a life-sim game. However, it appears that this trend is unlikely to abate, and the studio might find a novel method to broaden its offerings even more.

The additional content for The Sims 4 has evolved into numerous shapes, offering players fresh avenues to engage with their virtual characters. Each expansion pack introduces new settings, innovative gameplay aspects, and broadens the game in creative ways. Yet, there might be players who desire a deeper exploration of a previous DLC’s concept. Consequently, Maxis could contemplate developing fully-fledged sequels as DLC to delve more into these past themes.

The Sims 4 Could Completely Reinvent Its DLC Model

The Sims 4 Has Had So Much DLC Over the Years

Since 2015, “The Sims 4” has seen a variety of expansion packs that have broadened the horizons of this life-simulation game. For instance, “Get to Work” enabled players to explore their Sims’ professions, “Seasons” introduced realistic weather elements, “Get Famous” allowed Sims to gain celebrity status, and “High School Years” sent them off to school. No matter the preferences of players, it seems that “The Sims 4” has catered to most demands, but it hasn’t delved deeper into these additions.

After a new expansion drops for “The Sims 4”, the game typically leaves behind whatever was featured in the previous one. Occasionally, it may revisit those elements in a smaller add-on, or enhance them in a future expansion, but Maxis usually doesn’t introduce fresh ideas or updates to an existing expansion. Even when there seems to be significant potential for further development, players often don’t get to witness this potential realized. However, this situation could improve if Maxis adjusted its DLC strategy slightly by releasing DLC sequels instead.

Future DLC Could Take Those Concepts to New Heights

In the future, The Sims 4 DLC might delve deeper into ideas that have been previously presented, offering a wealth of additional content. For instance, a hypothetical Get to Work 2 could offer an array of extraordinary career paths, while Seasons 2 could intensify seasonal weather with terrifying storms or more seasonal elements. Similarly, Get Famous 2 might provide more opportunities for Sims to ascend to planetary stardom, and High School Years 2 could enrich the high school experience by adding layers of depth. Regardless of the theme, there’s a wealth of content yet to be discovered.

These subsequent DLC expansions for The Sims 4 not only allow players a chance to revisit old themes, but they also provide Maxis with numerous opportunities for additional post-launch content. Though some fans might wish the game to continue indefinitely, there will eventually be no new directions for the studio to explore. However, by developing sequels, the game could potentially extend its lifespan even further. If expansion packs have proven successful, Maxis could also create sequels for Game Packs, Stuff Packs, and Kits.

Currently, Maxis doesn’t appear to be planning additional DLC based on previous content. Instead, they seem to be focusing on fresh concepts, with Life & Death being their latest project. However, if they ever seek a significant change, a sequel DLC could be the most effective approach for them.
