The Sims 4 Lovestruck Dating App Has Catfishes

Highlights

  • Catfishing in The Sims 4 Lovestruck is not uncommon, with NPCs hiding their true age or appearance on dating apps.
  • Players have encountered surprises like an average-bodied NPC turning out to be muscular on the date in-game.
  • These unexpected twists add realism and humor, suggesting that Maxis intentionally included catfishing in the DLC.

As a dedicated Sims 4 player with countless hours invested in creating and nurturing my virtual Sims’ lives, I can’t help but be intrigued by the recent revelations of catfishing in the game’s newest expansion pack, Lovestruck.

Unfortunately, a player of ‘The Sims 4’ found a Non-Playable Character (NPC) from the game’s dating app that didn’t align with their expectations based on the character’s profile description, indicating the existence of ‘catfishes’ within the game. The latest DLC for ‘The Sims 4’, titled ‘Lovestruck’, was released on July 25th, and it significantly emphasizes the aspect of dating.

After receiving moderate criticism upon its launch in 2014, The Sims 4 has experienced remarkable growth with the help of 16 expansion packs. As a result, it has sold over ten million copies. The most recent addition to this successful series is The Sims 4: Lovestruck, developed by Maxis. This expansion introduces new elements like an online dating app and attraction system. Players are reportedly finding themselves more immersed in the game than ever before with these latest features, as they explore the romantic lives of their Sim characters.

I recently came across an amusing incident on Reddit where a fellow Sims 4 player fell victim to a deceitful NPC through Cupid’s Corner, the game’s in-app dating feature. This player was taken aback when they discovered that the “Young Adult” they had been exchanging flirtatious messages with was actually an “Elder” in the game. The discrepancy between her profile and real appearance became apparent once I compared the two; wrinkles and age lines were noticeably absent from her dating profile picture.

Catfishes May Be Rampant in The Sims 4 Lovestruck

Based on various comments on the post, it seems that falling victim to deception in The Sims 4’s dating system might not be an uncommon occurrence. One player shared an experience where a Non-Player Character (NPC) with an average physique in their profile picture turned out to have a muscular build on the date. Another player found themselves in a situation similar to that of the original poster, where their Sim was misled about the age of their date.

It’s possible that Maxis, the EA-owned studio behind The Sims 4, intentionally included catfishing as a feature, given that it has been observed in several ways within the game. If this is true, then players were unexpectedly introduced to an aspect of online dating apps through their simulation experience. Let’s hope that more elements adding realism and amusement to The Sims 4 are considered for future installments in the life-simulation series.
