As a long-time player of The Sims 4, I’ve encountered my fair share of quirks and glitches in the game. But nothing quite compares to the bizarre tanning incident that recently occurred with one of my Sims.
I was playing The Sims 4 and decided it was time for my character to hit the beach for a nice, sun-kissed tan. But then something really odd happened – out of nowhere, my Sim’s appearance underwent a drastic makeover! The game, in its quirky way, transformed my Sim’s hair color into something entirely new and even bestowed them with an unexpected mustache! It was definitely an unusual experience that left me both amused and a bit puzzled.
The Sims 4 has been available for close to ten years now, and over this period, numerous expansions, DLC, and game packs have been released. While these additions bring new elements and playability, they don’t always harmonize with the extensive list of Sims 4 mods that have emerged concurrently.
In a Reddit post, a user named Tomokas described an unexpected transformation in their teen Sim’s appearance during gameplay of “The Sims 4.” Initially, the Sim had long brown hair, freckled skin, and wore purple shorts and a white tank top before going tanning. However, upon completion of the tanning session, the Sim emerged with dark facial hair, blonde hair, tattoos, numerous accessories, and a changed outfit color and length.
Why This Sims 4 Tanning Experience Went Awry
The Sims community has found the recent glitch amusing, drawing comparisons to Captain Jack Sparrow from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Despite the humor, players are also offering assistance. One proposed remedy is having the Sim participate in an activity that triggers an outfit change, such as working out or going to work. It seems manually changing their attire doesn’t resolve this problem, but there might be something unique about the automated process that restores normalcy.
Players have mentioned that the glitch occurring in “Sims 4” may be linked to having custom content (CC) installed. The precise cause remains unidentified, but users report that their Sims’ appearances can inadvertently switch with nearby Sims while tanning. In a specific case, when tanning started for a Sim, Vladislaus Straud was present on the lot, resulting in some of Vladislaus’ textures being adopted by the Sim instead. Several players expressed their dislike for using the tanning feature with CC due to potential issues like this and interface complications.
In The Sims 4, tanning has been a feature for approximately half of the game’s existence. It seems that this issue with the tanning glitch has been present for some time. Unfortunately, since a solution appears uncertain, players encountering this problem should try changing their Sim’s outfit as a workaround.
