The Sims 4 Updates Fans on Major Save File Issue

EA has released an update regarding the problem some players are having with corrupted save files in The Sims 4. This new report builds on a previous one from August, where The Sims 4 team told fans they were looking into the issue and working to find a fix.

The Sims 4 is a widely played game, but it definitely has its share of issues. Throughout its lifespan, many bugs have appeared in The Sims 4 – some seriously disrupt the game or prevent players from playing at all, while others are just minor visual glitches. More recently, since late 2023, players have been experiencing problems with save files becoming corrupted in The Sims 4, which has been very frustrating for those affected.

The Sims 4 Addresses Save Corruption Bug

In a recent update, EA confirmed they are still looking into the save file corruption issues in The Sims 4, which started after the release of the ‘For Rent’ pack in 2023. The development team has been trying to recreate the problem and believes the issue likely stems from the game’s temporary files and lot data. According to EA, these ‘scratch files’ are used by the game, and if they are unexpectedly deleted, it can cause problems. Their investigations also suggest that certain types of lots – particularly those that are very crowded and full of items – may be causing the game to get stuck on loading screens.

The team is still looking into this problem and has temporarily removed the Residential Rental Unit cheat – Sims 4’s “bb.increaserentalunitcap” – as a precaution while they work on a solution. They’re also asking players to report any other issues they encounter so they can investigate them. However, some players are frustrated with the recent update, noting that save file problems have been happening for over a year, stopping some from being able to play the For Rent expansion they bought.

The community has also expressed concerns that the large volume of official content for the game might actually be contributing to the issues. Many players are frustrated that The Sims 4 keeps releasing new content despite existing problems, believing it could be exacerbating them. Fortunately, the development team appears to be addressing the situation, though it’s taking time to fix. For now, all players can do is wait for EA to come up with a solution.
