If you’ve successfully updated The Sims 4 without any problems, you’ve probably noticed all the new features. The update includes new items for creating Sims and more ways to customize stairs, fulfilling many requests from dedicated players. It appears this update was largely designed to prepare for the upcoming Royalty & Legacy expansion pack.
Simmers have been eagerly awaiting the Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack for its promise of family dynasties. Unfortunately, it follows a familiar pattern – many of its key features were actually introduced in a free base game update just before the pack launched. This is often a fun surprise for players, as they might not even realize the groundwork was already in place. In fact, one of the most talked-about additions from Royalty & Legacy was quietly rolled out in a recent, large update to The Sims 4.
The Sims 4’s Most Recent Update’s Most Popular Addition Leads to Royalty & Legacy’s Messiest Feature
The heart of a Sims game lies in its families. Iconic characters, from Bella Goth to Johnny Zest, are all part of larger family stories. This is by design – the game constantly pushes players to build and nurture family connections, whether by starting new families or getting involved with those already established. The newest update to TS4 makes these family relationships even more detailed and complex.
Our updated family trees give players a complete way to manage their Sims’ families, going beyond what traditional trees offer. You can now track a wider range of relatives – like in-laws, half-siblings, and great-grandparents – and even label relationships that were previously unclear. The system is incredibly detailed, allowing you to specify whether adopted Sims are identified as such within the family tree.
New relationship labels include:
- In-Laws: Mother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, Sister-in-Law, Brother-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law, Son-in-Law, Relative-In-law, Distant Relative-In-Law
- Step- and Half- Relatives: Half-sister, Half-brother, Stepmother, Stepfather, Stepdaughter, Stepson,
- Grandfamilies: Great-grandmother, Great-grandfather, Great-grandson, Great-granddaughter, Grandniece, Grandnephew, Grand-aunt, Grand-uncle
- Other: Distant Relative, Cousin, Cousin’s Child, Ancestor, Descendant, Ex-Spouse (formally Divorced), Late Spouse (formally Deceased Spouse)
This update improves how the game handles family relationships. Previously, the game didn’t always recognize who was related, which could lead to strange situations. Now, close relatives won’t be able to pursue romantic relationships, and the game will prevent flirting between in-laws or step-relatives without player interaction.
The New Sims 4 Family Tree Update Lays Down a Juicy Foundation for Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack
The recent February 3rd update to The Sims 4 is a big improvement for players who enjoy focusing on family dynamics. Now, awkward or inappropriate interactions – like a grandmother flirting with her son-in-law – won’t happen unexpectedly. At the same time, it’s now harder to have secret relationships without other family members finding out. This update significantly improves how family relationships are tracked, and it comes just before a new expansion pack all about building a lasting legacy.
Introducing Secret Children in The Sims 4
The Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack focuses on ensuring a smooth transfer of power, beyond just fancy balls and titles. While players will likely choose their ruler’s children as heirs, the expansion also considers unexpected situations. What happens when the ruler has a child out of wedlock, for example?
Okay, so the latest Sims 4 update on February 3rd is seriously shaking things up for anyone playing the Royalty & Legacy challenges! It looks like we’re finally getting a peek at a secret that can totally ruin your entire Sim family line – secret children! It’s a really interesting twist because of all the different ways you can handle it in the game. It’s going to make things way more complicated, but in a good way, honestly. I’m excited to see how this impacts my long-term legacies!
- Secret Children can be kept under wraps if cards are played correctly. This may cause discord, but a Dynasty Head should be used to adversity.
- Secret Children can be recognized and added to a dynasty, encouraging peace and honesty or destabilizing succession.
- Secret Children can be discovered by nosy Sims who research a family tree to gather incriminating information.
- Dynasty Heads or pertinent family members can be extorted for Simoleons to keep the secret.
- Secret Children can be exposed if discovered by another Sim.
This update introduces secret lovers, who can later be used for blackmail when Royalty & Legacy launches on February 13th.
A Legacy of Scandal in The Sims 4
What’s really interesting about this new update is that The Sims 4 hasn’t usually made family history matter much – it’s always been more about how things look than the actual consequences. Things like affairs or unexpected children would cause drama and hurt feelings, but not much else. However, the Royalty & Legacy expansion pack changes that by making family history something that can be used as proof – and even used against other Sims.
Previously, illegitimate children were just a minor plot point. Now, they can seriously impact a family’s wealth, status, and overall legacy. The recent update to the family tree isn’t just a helpful feature—it feels like preparation for something bigger. A clear family history is essential for a scandal system to work properly. These secrets are now part of a family’s permanent record and can affect future generations. Considering how much freedom players have in this game, this addition – even if scandalous – is probably a very good thing.
