The Sims 4’s Leaked Expansion Pack Could Widen the Gap with InZOI

It’s common for expansion packs of The Sims 4 to leak early, and this has been no exception with the second expansion pack of 2025. The upcoming expansion for The Sims 4 is said to revolve around plants, featuring magical ones and fairies. Fairies have long been requested by players, as other supernatural elements like werewolves, vampires, and ghosts have already made an appearance.

In The Sims 3: Supernatural expansion, fairies were introduced along with vampires, witches, and werewolves, but their arrival came much later in the game. Most occult beings in The Sims 4 have been released as the main focus of a game pack, except for aliens and mermaids. Since fairies might be part of a nature-themed expansion pack, it’s possible they won’t be the primary focus of the expansion but rather similar to aliens and mermaids among the occults. Regardless of their role size, this addition would distinguish The Sims 4 from InZOI, which intentionally lags behind when it comes to supernatural features.

InZOI Doesn’t Have Occults

In comparison to its rival game, InZOI (still in early access), The Sims 4 offers a significant advantage with the addition of fairies to its gameplay, despite their depth. While InZOI emphasizes more realistic gameplay within its fantastical setting as a godlike character serving cats, The Sims 4 has a well-established framework for incorporating supernatural elements due to its past iterations and the decade it’s spent expanding and refining occults and magical systems, occasionally overhauling them.

InZOI’s Early Access Plans Include a Popular Occult

With regards to InZOI’s approach of incorporating supernatural elements during its early access phase, InZOI intends to introduce playable ghost characters in a later update scheduled for 2025. These ghosts will play a significant role in the game’s karma system. Ghosts are generated within InZOOI when a Zoi dies with an unfavorable karma score. To move on to the afterlife, they must improve their karma by performing good deeds. Since these ghosts have not been developed yet, we can only speculate about their gameplay mechanics at this point. It’s likely that this is as deep as the game will delve into occult themes for now, at least in terms of what’s planned for the immediate future.

InZOI’s Focus is on Realism

Earlier this year, just before the early access release of InZOI, its game director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim expressed that the team aimed to constrain the role of ghosts in the game to emphasize its more authentic elements instead. Later, he added:

We’re focused on enhancing the lifelike aspects of InZOI for now, but I’m eager to delve into adding more magical or fantastical elements down the line.

From Kjun’s feedback, it seems that InZOI is unlikely to include more occult or supernatural elements immediately, as the developers are focusing on enhancing the player experience with realistic aspects like family interactions, personal relationships, daily routines, and professions. Since InZOI is still in early access, there are several fundamental features it needs to incorporate before reaching a complete base game status. Once all these features have been added, addressed, and improved based on player feedback, Krafton might consider introducing supernatural elements into InZOI, though they may not be as prevalent as in The Sims 4.

InZOI May Not Need Supernatural Features

InZOI might prioritize realism and practical gameplay, given its hyper-realistic visuals. This doesn’t mean it’s lacking in any way. Instead, supernatural elements may not align with InZOI‘s design philosophy. Its main appeal could lie in challenges related to generation, construction, and narrating more down-to-earth stories through its characters. While The Sims maintains this type of content, it continues to set itself apart from competitors and provides players a reason not to fully switch to InZOI.
