It seems like a captivating fusion of Lovecraftian cosmic dread and the spine-tingling thrills of Resident Evil. This tantalizing glimpse into The Sinking City 2 was strategically unveiled to fuel anticipation for its crowdfunding campaign, hinting at a rich tapestry of mystery and stunning visuals that I simply can’t wait to delve into.

Showcasing gameplay clips for the upcoming title, The Sinking City 2, was a smart move as it quickly surpassed its crowdfunding goal in just two hours on Kickstarter. Since then, Frogwares has significantly exceeded their initial target, currently standing at almost $250,000 in funding. This is quite an accomplishment for the developer, and what’s especially captivating is that The Sinking City 2 is incorporating elements reminiscent of Capcom’s hit series, Resident Evil. Interestingly, Frogwares isn’t the first to adopt this approach, as last year’s remake of Silent Hill 2 also drew inspiration from Resident Evil. This could prove beneficial for The Sinking City 2 as well.

As the release date approached, there was a fair amount of apprehension. The team’s decision to draw inspiration from “Resident Evil” sparked concerns that it would lean too heavily towards action rather than narrative focus. However, this concern proved unfounded as both aspects were expertly balanced. A new over-the-shoulder camera angle heightened the suspense, while the combat demanded precision, ensuring each shot mattered.

The Sinking City 2’s Resident Evil Inspiration is Clear

Labeled by Frogwares as a third-person survival horror game, “The Sinking City” shares more than just genre similarities with the popular “Resident Evil” series. The traditional over-the-shoulder camera angle is present, but so too are elements such as grotesque body horror and eerie lighting that call to mind the long-running zombie franchise. Unfortunately, it remains unclear when gamers will be able to dive into this title, but given its engaging gameplay, Frogwares seems poised to deliver a horror story that’s worth the patience.
