The Smurfs – Dreams playable demo released

As a veteran gamer with a heart full of nostalgia for the enchanting world of the Smurfs, I can hardly contain my excitement over Ocellus Studio’s upcoming release, The Smurfs – Dreams! Growing up, the Smurfs were a staple in my household and brought countless hours of joy. To see them return to the gaming landscape with such an intriguing premise has me grinning ear-to-ear like Papa Smurf himself!

Ocellus Studio has made available a demonstration version of The Smurfs – Dreams, which can be played on consoles and PC, allowing individuals to get a taste before its official launch in October.

The demonstration is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam. It provides a “preview of the amazing adventure that lies ahead”, as described by the developer.

Check out the demo trailer, below:

In this imaginative twist, Gargamel devises a wicked strategy to seize the Smurfs. The notorious figure has enchanted the smurfberries, their beloved snack, causing them to fall into a deep slumber. Venture on a dream-like odyssey where you must awaken every Smurf before the treacherous Gargamel arrives at the village. This exhilarating adventure promises an engaging gaming experience filled with both delightful surprises and the enigma of nightmares, as dreams can easily transform from joy to the uncertainty of terrors.

In this game, whether you choose to play alone or with another player, you’ll journey through captivating or terrifying landscapes while delving into the dreams of your beloved Smurfs. The levels offer diverse gameplay, creating an engaging experience that fully immerses you in a magical realm where creativity blossoms. Each world presents unique features, making this 3D platformer a thrilling adventure with challenges to keep you hooked, as the enchanting setting brings your imagination to life.

During our initial hands-on review in June, we mentioned: “There were other aspects of The Smurfs: Dreams that piqued my curiosity, even though I couldn’t explore them during this preview. I’m still unsure about the purpose of collectibles, but I hope there’s a compelling reason to amass them. Furthermore, the game allows for local two-player co-op play with a friend. Unfortunately, no one was available to join me in my Smurfing adventure during this preview, but it seems like playing with a younger gamer could be an enjoyable experience, particularly in a cooperative setting.

As a gamer, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how engaging The Smurfs – Dreams has turned out to be. The diverse levels and the entertaining moveset make it a joy to learn and perfect. Plus, with its intriguing premise, this game might just become an unforgettable Smurf-filled adventure!

If you give it a go and have fun with the game, there’s an upgraded version called the Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes with a Thief costume, a digital art compendium, and the game’s soundtrack.

The Smurfs – Dreams is coming to PC and consoles on October 24th.
