As a gamer with a heart full of nostalgia and fingers worn from countless hours of pixel-pushing, this news about The Rubber Keyed Wonder movie has me buzzing like an old CRT monitor! I vividly remember the days when the ZX Spectrum was the epitome of gaming innovation, and it’s a delight to see its history being celebrated in such a grand manner.


Three production companies, Gracious Films, GEL, and MusicFilmNetwork, have unveiled the global debut of “The Rubber Keyed Wonder,” a movie about the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. This special event will occur at London’s BFi Max on October 3. The film delves into the evolution and birth of the ZX Spectrum from its inception to its market launch, while also exploring subsequent versions of the computer and iconic games associated with it such as Jet Set Willy, Knightlore, Chuckie Egg, Ant Attack, Saboteur, and others.

The Rubber Keyed Marvel recounts the tale of Clive Sinclair’s iconic ZX Spectrum home computer. Launched in 1982, this device sold millions globally due to its affordability and ease of access. As a significant technological breakthrough, it paved the way for an expansive realm of opportunities for countless individuals. The ZX Spectrum empowered numerous users to master programming skills and develop their own games, thereby igniting the British video game industry during the 1980s.

After the world premiere, there will be a Q&A session featuring Anthony & Nicola Caulfield, directors of the film, along with James O’Brien, a well-known broadcaster. Also participating are Crispin Sinclair, son of Sir Clive Sinclair, Grant Sinclair, inventor and nephew of Sir Clive Sinclair, Sandy White, creator of Ant Attack, and Clive Townsend, the creative mind behind Saboteur.
