The Strongest Dragon Ball Characters Introduced in Super, Ranked

Dragon Ball Super has divided fans. While it’s been enjoyable to revisit Goku and his friends, the series isn’t without flaws. One major issue is the constantly increasing power levels – Super introduces even more powerful gods and angelic beings, far surpassing the strength of any human character.

Dragon Ball Super has introduced some incredibly strong new villains and allies for Goku, Vegeta, and their friends. As the anime is set to return, let’s take a look at some of the most powerful characters who debuted in the series.

Fused Zamasu

  • Fused Zamasu, created by the merging of Goku Black and Future Zamasu, is one of the most powerful fusions seen in the series. Combining Zamasu’s ability to avoid death with the immense potential of a Saiyan like Goku, he quickly became one of the most fearsome villains ever introduced.

However, combining a human body with an immortal one actually weakened Fused Zamasu. This combination was unstable, causing him to change form as he grew stronger. Ironically, this instability became his downfall, making him a powerful but ultimately flawed enemy.

Top

Top, the leader of Universe 11’s Pride Troopers, was a remarkably powerful fighter in the Tournament of Power. While Jiren was Universe 11’s best, Top was close behind and proved to be a strong match for many of the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball universe.

Top proved to be a formidable opponent, successfully battling characters like Gohan and Android 17. However, his true strength came from his ability to transform into a Destroyer Form. Similar to how Vegeta later learns, Top could tap into the immense power of a Destroyer. While his form shares similarities with Ultra Ego, Ultra Ego ultimately grants a significantly greater increase in power.

Jiren

Throughout the Tournament of Power, Jiren consistently proved to be an incredibly powerful fighter, and for much of the competition, he was the strongest of them all. Considering the tournament included skilled warriors from countless universes, simply being among the top fighters was an amazing accomplishment. From the moment he appeared, it was clear Jiren was on another level.

With so many incredibly strong characters appearing since then, it’s easy to overlook the fact that Jiren turned down the position of Universe 11’s Destroyer. This showed he was more skilled than Top and even more powerful than Belmond. Although Universe 11 lost the Tournament of Power, Jiren almost single-handedly brought them to victory. And because he’s still getting stronger, the idea of him returning for another fight with Goku is really exciting.

Moro

Moro truly lives up to his title, “Planet Eater,” as a being of immense destruction. While his magic sets him apart from other fighters, it’s far more than just a trick – he possesses genuine, overwhelming power.

Moro stands out as a villain because of his unique control over life energy. He can absorb energy from his surroundings during fights and drain his opponents much faster than others with similar powers, like Androids 19 and 20. By the end of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, Moro becomes strong enough to fight on equal footing with someone using Perfected Ultra Instinct. This huge power increase, combined with his magical abilities, made him a compelling villain, and fans will soon get to see his story animated in the anime.

Broly

The first version of Broly was incredibly powerful, but the newer Broly from Dragon Ball Super is even stronger than the one we saw in the original movie.

Broly grew up isolated on Planet Vampa, which meant he didn’t get the same opportunities to train and fight strong opponents like Goku and Vegeta. Despite this, he was able to compete with them even in their powerful Super Saiyan forms, showcasing his immense natural talent. While still relatively untrained, Broly’s incredible strength and quick learning ability in battle make him one of the most promising fighters in the series.

Cell Max

Had Cell Max been allowed to fully develop, he likely would have been the most powerful villain in Dragon Ball Super. Akira Toriyama has said a complete Cell Max would have surpassed even Broly in strength. Unfortunately, he was defeated prematurely, reducing him to a powerful but uncontrolled beast, lacking the strategic intelligence he originally possessed.

Even though he wasn’t at full power, Cell Max was incredibly strong. Orange Piccolo couldn’t defeat him, and it took Gohan achieving his incredibly powerful Beast form – one of the strongest transformations in the series – to finally win.

Granolah

Granolah is a really compelling character in the Dragon Ball series. He began as a villain, motivated by the Saiyans destroying his planet, which led to conflict with Goku and Vegeta. However, he later teamed up with them to fight the Heeters.

Granolah began as a skilled, though relatively weak, bounty hunter. Determined to surpass even Frieza, he used a wish from the Eternal Dragon of Planet Cereal, Toronbo, to become the strongest being in the universe for a period. This power came at the cost of a shorter lifespan, but it allowed him to fight against powerful opponents like Goku, Vegeta, and Gas. While his future after Black Frieza’s arrival is uncertain, it’s likely he won’t live much longer past the events of his saga, and may even be gone by the time the Super Hero arc begins.

Gas

Gas, the most powerful warrior of the Heeter clan, was a major challenge in the Granolah the Survivor Saga. Similar to Granolah, his strength grew dramatically after using the Cerealian Dragon Balls.

Watching the fight, it was clear that both Granolah and Gas got a significant power boost, even if it came at a cost. This allowed them to actually go toe-to-toe with fighters who were normally far beyond their reach. Gas, after his transformation, was surprisingly able to battle both Goku in his Ultra Instinct form and Vegeta with his Ultra Ego, holding his own against two of the strongest Saiyans ever, even while they were using their godly powers. However, the strain on his body was much more immediate than it was for Granolah. By the time Frieza showed up, Gas was completely depleted, a shadow of his former self.

Destroyers, Angels, & Zeno

Angels, Zeno, and Destroyers are the most powerful beings in the Dragon Ball universe. While it’s not really a fair comparison to put them with regular fighters, they represent the peak of power shown in Super. With abilities like universe erasure and reality-altering powers, especially Zeno, they are far beyond what most characters can handle.
